well cars generally back fire when they are loosing spark and thats wat it sounds like is happening. i had pretty well the same problem with mine, and it just back fired heaps after a while. so wat i found was wrong with mine was the coil for the distributor. replaced it and it ran fine but it mite be somehting as simple as a loose plug somewhere. so when it happens next pull in somewhere dark or something get a friend to rev it a bit and see if u can see any archs where it mite be loosing spark (your not ment to be able to see it) but if u can see it theres your problem. if that doesnt work undo your ignition cap and check that out check the coild and rotor button and the leads to. hope this helped

yeah agree sounds like ignition, could be coil or dizzy, or plugs.. or something simple like the vacuum line on the dizzy has fallen off?

Doesnt sound like a vacuum problem. Sounds more like ignition. Check timing as well as what the others have said... also if still no luck... make sure the carby is ok. If the jetting isnt right then it could cause the loss in power... i wouldnt think backfiring though... take it to an auto elec if you still have no luck.

check your carbi mate, is it dual fuel? even if it isnt, if it has sat for a while and the seals have dried up and cracked, when the secondaries open youll notice itll wanna die, itll spit and choke, and it wont wanna run, i have the same problem with my car, so that MAY be the problem.. but yeh the rest of the posts are on par with solving the problem as well! good luck man...
