Hey all, I didn't have much luck with the search option so I'll make a thread, sorry if it is repeated.
I'm after a list of all the parts I'll need to put a 308 into my '84 VK. The VK is currently an auto but that **** its self so I'm umming and arring if to change to manule. But anyway, a list and rough price for a conversion would be alot of help! I also relise that it's more than just a motor in and call it a day. So what else needs to be changed over?

You dont have to change the K frame.
You dont need a Modification plate as it is a standard option for a VK.
You will need:
Motor
Engine mounts
V8 brake booster
V8 radiator
V8 front springs/struts
Gearbox
Crossmember
Tailshaft
Diff
Ive done this exact conversion twice..

Ive done the opposite... i took a VK V8 and put it in my HQ. It pretty much dropped in with the exception of some 308 engine mounts and a HQ 308 sump.
But i did gearbox and diff at the same time, aswell as radiator, wiring, ignition, rear bushes then exhaust. Whole exercise took 3 days. One for removing all the running gear (the easy part). One day for the trial fit. The third day for connecting everything and making sure it worked.

2 questions.
How much did each conversion cost you and also what is a better way for plan of attack? Doner car or source the parts seperate?
Thanks!

All depends on how much you can source the parts for seperatley.
The first time I did it with a donor car, however the second time I did it seperatley.
Depending on the condition of the running gear your removing from the vehicle you can recoupe some expense, seeling those items.
I would recommend you just getting a donor car, so you have all the parts, rather than searching high and low for a specific part.
Donor cars can be had for as little as a grand.

I bought my motor from a friend of a friend who had a smashed VK... that was $600 complete.
Its all of the seperate parts that add up... bellhousing, clutch, gearbox, tailshaft, radiator etc etc...
From 6 cyl to 8 cyl drive in drive out i would be thinking around $2000 - $2500... thats all done ourselves so no labour costs except beer.
