where bouts do these usually break?
specify if u mean 25 spline 2 pinion or 28 spline 4 pinion..
how weak r the 25 spline diffs?? will a 25 spline LSD diff survive long behind a 5sp NA 3.0 doing a little burnout/drift and drag racing action??

Do yourself a favor, go find either a 5ltr VL diff which have 28 spline axles, go get a minispool for 100 bucks and you wont have any problems
I wouldnt even waste my time or money with 25 spline crap

28 spline 4 pinion for sure. just get a good ratio (ie not 3.08 v8 diff), and id get a detroit or lokka. not a spool.

Krieger - There is either a Detroit Locker, Mechanical Locker and Air/gas Locker.. its not a "lokka", and all of the above are as illegal on australian roads as a minispool or full spool.
May as well go a minispool for price/effeciveness. Lockers have an extreme price tag, not to mention that they are prone to breakages.
needaname - Get a VL Turbo 3.45:1 28 spline LSD, or a 28spline openwheeler.
If you get the LSD, just make sure its nice and tight, if you get an open wheeler, spend the extra $100 and have a spool thrown into it.
Minispool - The best $100 I've ever spent...

lokka is a brand fool. id rather have something that doesn't snap axles every week even if both are illegal.

I dont think a 25 spline diff will last long at all no matter what center its got. I would assume if open which i dont think its going to be, then the weakest thing will be the pinions. then axles. Im not saying it wont last a while just eventually they will break.
All VLTs have got the bigger diff aswell.
Standard typed LSDs never last long if your doing burnouts.
If you wanna be a tight arse I would weld the diff and see how you go with the 25 spline axles.
In my VLT Calais (its been NA RB30 with NA 5speed for a while) it has 28spline axels when it had the open center, where the spline sits in the diff got chewed out and then it had heaps of lash there, kept getting worse and worse. I simply welded it and never had a problem since.
Go easy on that 5speed if its an NA one because I would be more worried about that AND its going to be more expensive to fix/replace, dont flat shift it.

I still use a 25 spline diff, (spooled) with a mildly fruited RB25DET, and after plenty of burnout comps and 2 seasons of drifting, has given me know trouble at all, (touch wood) but idealy, I would like a 28 spline unit

I've got a mild factory VLT est. mid 13's, with the 28 spline turbo diff. I put a minispool in it I'll be honest it's a prick of a thing to cruise in, but it's bloody magic for drifting. I went the best of both worlds and kept my lsd centre and when i'm not going nuts in the VL, my mate and i can swap the centres in little over an hour and a half and with some practice we want to drop that time to an hour. The lad that built up the mini used a romac, and he had a wall of fame with nothing over an 11 sec car there all running minispools. One word of caution the minispools love to axle tramp and if anyone has any hints to fighting this problem i would love to hear them.

Drift VL, lucky you, my mates Vl, ran 13.0 and goes through axels all the time, I would imagine your axels would be at least twisted. Another mate was going through axels with an RB20DET running in the 15s at under 100mph

if you get hold of a V8 diff, you can use the crown and pinion from your open wheeler.. will fit straight up. If u are unsure of the process, pay a professional, will save you money in the end

21-12-05, 23:42 GMT+10#15 yeah i have had my 25 spline spooled diff in for 10 months and i am on my 4th set of axles but i have run the car out the drags with slicks 5 times probably done about 40 launchs they twist up straight away what you need to do is get axles out of and auto vl because they haven't had the constant stress of shifting gears for the last 20 years auto axles are mad but get a 28 spliner if you can if not get some billets and a full spool never worry about it again

03-01-06, 13:00 GMT+10#18 do not get a spool in a 25 spline...
i have a VLCT and she had a 25spline diff center lasted me 4 days of hard driving and that was single spinner...
and the spool will snap the axels.
28 VLT / VLV8 Axels. 28 spline Cradle (so u have the 4 pinion) and the Minispool.
trust me mate if u brake and axel i'll buy u a new one. (hence you won't)
