After taking nearly 6 weeks to help pull down a mates engine/gearbox to source the reason behind is severe overheating problem, this morning we finally found the drama. So basically we took head, manifolds, thermostat, sump, water pump etc etc off to find that THE BLOODY CLUTCH ON THE FAN WAS STUFFED...Gee do we both feel like idiots lol So to make me feel better, I wana know about the silliest things that have happened to you while working on your cars.

i had removed the radiator and drove the car up the drive way, water and auto trans fluid everywhere also i put a manual box in my car and put the clutch release bearing on the wrong way. it destroyed the bearing, carrier and pressure plate and left me with another days work to do. i told my mechanic and he laughed at me lol Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

on work experience, i was with another kid my age, and we were told to change the clutch on this old xb ute, anyway, we had it up on a hoist, and we undid all the bellhousing bolts, then we had the great idea for me to hold up the gearbox, while he undid the crossmember, it seemed pretty light until he actually undid all the bolts, i held it for about 20 seconds before i managed to almost drop a gearbox on my foot, and cover myself in transmission oil... and the time my friend came over saying his car needed oil (1.6l td gemini) so we put in 3 litres, checked the dipstick, nothing, then another 5 container of oil, and still nothing, so we started the car, and oil shot out the exhaust, and overflowed into the air filter then back down into the carby, as well as out the dipstick.... took us 2 hours of pouring a little bit of petrol into the carby to start it for 10 seconds at a time to get the oil out theres a few more, but ive had enough of making an ass of myself on a car forum

Not me, but still it's pretty funny. My mum doesn't know much about cars, but this was just stupid... A couple of weeks ago, I took the radiator out of my car and took it to the shop to get the filler neck re-welded. That friday, I had to work so I took mum's car to work. Mine was sitting on the street, minus the radiator. After I've been at work for 20 mins, my manager comes out and tells me I've got a phonecall. It's mum, and she's heard some story that there's going to be a big storm at my house. Mum: "How do I turn off your alarm?" Me: "Why the hell is my alarm going off" Mum: "I'm trying to unlock your car" She had my car keys, and instead of using the remote on the keyring to unlock it she had used the key and wondered why the alarm was going off. So I tell her to use the remote and not the key... Mum: "where's the remote?" I can't believe she's asking me this but anyway... Me: "umm on the keyring?" So I hear the alarm stop, and there's a long pause........ Mum:"now it won't start" Me: "Fuckkkkkkkk! Leave it alone!" Thank christ for my immobiliser is all I can say, I wonder how far she would have driven my car without a radiator?

This is the dumbest thing i have ever done. my calais had been sitting in my back yard for the past 4 months while i was doing all the paint work and fixing a few things. Anyway i finaly got it all finish and decided to take it for a drive. Took it out the main road and put it up to around 100+ kph, then when i got home i remembered that the back two wheels only had 2 wheel nuts hold them on and the nuts were only hand tight.

i learnt a lesson on drinking alot of jim beam and working on a car. we were putting engine back in a mates vl while drinking. everything went fine got it running and driving till a couple of days later the fan belt snapped off due to the alt not done up. whoops................ then to top it off one had to work out y it was running like s**t, 4 leads were wrong way round. moral of the story dont drink TOO much whilst working on cars

had the auto gearbox litterally hanging out of the car for a whole day...couldnt figure out what the hell was holding it in... the next day , a friend came around , and said undo the bolts to the torque converter lol... 2 minutes by myself, and i pulled it out... man i was pissed off also...i couldnt get the pedal box out, so i spent hours upside down underneath the dash messing with sirclips and pins trying to get the manual brake pedal in.... well i got it in.. but the rod that goes to the brake booster was on the wrong side... and it wouldnt go back properly... so it had to come back out...
