Flush your radiator, change the oil and check your water pump. Are you running the stock clutch fan assembly? With shroud?

I had 2 thermos (craig davies) 16" and 10" and the car was constantly running hot, especially on idle... After replacing radiator, waterpump and thermostat I realised it was the lack of shroud.... however temperatures up here are alot higher than that of melbourne.

You wil find if you dont have a shroud it will over heat, and you will have hotspots in your radiator.

I'd put the AU type twin setup on instead, they cover more surface area, do a great job and are cheaper!

Whattever arrangement you go for make sure there is a fan shroud arrangement (ie either standard clutch fan and shroud or AU type fan and shroud arrangement) as it channels the air through the radiator better rather than just blowing air everywhere. i replaced the clutch fan in mine and it helped a lot ... can you hear the clutch fan cut in and out? Nice ride btw from the pics i've seen of it. I couldn't hear mine when i had a really lumpy cam in it ... now i've rebuilt it with a more conservative cam in, i can hear the clutch fan quite clearly when it cuts in and out ... If you're just standing in front of it you can feel the extra wind generated by it ... Jamie Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

go the au set. at 230 delivered they are cheaper and work heaps better than a d/c fan. also get your rad professionally cleaned out. shouldnt cost more than 80 bucks

clutch fan should be fine. all this talk of thermo's makes me laugh. the only time you really need them is if your building a monster. if its relativly stock (under 11seconds) clutch fun should be good, make sure the shroud is good. make sure your water galleries are fine.. don't just put a thermo on hoping the problem will go away, theres another problem that needs fixing.. i have a clutch fan on a relativly modified 5ltr, and my temprature gauge hits a quarter during the night or in winter, and halfway during the hotest days in summer.

In all fairness ... when the guys are talking about AU thermo's they are talking about replacing a fan/shroud arrangement with a twin thermo shrouded arrangement, not in addition to a clutch fan, although there was some talk of them earlier in the thread. There is a small performance gain from not running a clutch or static fan also. Mine runs at 1/4 most all the time, unless it's 40 deg, and i have the a/c on, in which case it's just under half. I run a standard clutch fan and shroud.

I spoke to my engine builder a while ago about putting thermo's on as my car gets very hot if in traffic (like chapel st where its stopped). He said that on all the engines he has ever built, hes never seen thermo's keep an engine from getting too hot. He said for me to stick to an engine fan as they are far better at moving air through the radiator. I had my car up to 211 degrees on chapel st... 212 is boiling point. Yes i was worried.
