Thanks JOHNNY (VKI11A) For this article Ok guys finally got around to finishing off installing my AU Thermos (I picked these up very cheaply from tuffcarparts.com) and thought id do abit of a DIY Install with pictures. Now im installing these into a VL V8 and im pretty sure it'll be much the same threw VN-VS however VB-VK are abit harder and require more chopping as they use a different bottem radiator support.EL-EF Twin thermos are a better fit for the earlier models. I used a angle grinder for cutting/grinding the shroud. 1 - Here is the fans new out of the box. 2 - Radiator in position. 3 - Start to dummy up the fans against the radiator and see where abouts the fan shroud are hitting on the radiator/chassis rails. As you can see here the orignal mounting points are no longer needed and stopped the AU's sitting all the way down so all 4 can be ground off. 4 & 5 - Pictures of the shroud with original mounting points ground off. 6/7/8 - With the original mounting points gone you can now slip the AU's right down in there desired position and see where abouts the shroud is fouling on the radiators inlet, outlet, filler neck and transcooler lines. Now here is where you have a few options - im running a B&M Transcooler so I ground off those 2 little nipples for the transmission lines. You also have the choice of wether you wish to go ahead and cut the shroud up to fit around the top inlet and filler neck or you can have each moved to either side of the tank so shroud cutting is kept to a mininum. I decided to get both moved for a neater look. I also got the bottem outlet extended, this helps with less trimming around the bottem of the shroud as the hose only has to go halfway onto the outlet. 10/11 - Here you can see each outlet and where abouts it has been moved to. All up with a radiator flush/service it was around $120. 12 - With the filler neck and top inlet moved I could fit the fans flush against the radiator with the exception of the bottem outlet, I marked where abouts it had to be cut and slowly started cutting away, its better to do little piece by little piece and get it just right then trying to do it all in one go.Here you can see how much I had to cut. 13 - With the bottem outlet taken care of the fans were almost right to go.To get the fans sitting all the way down you need to mark where the 2 little clips from your original shroud hit on the AU's and make 2 little slots for them to slide into, not only does this allow the fans to sit all the way down but is what holds the bottem of the shroud in place and stops it from moving out without creating some kind of other bracket. 14 - Up top now the fans were sitting just a fraction out on where the seam is of each side tank, mark what needs to be clearanced and grind away. 15/16/17 - Here is a few pictures of the radiator and shroud almost ready to go.What I had to do to secure the top was cut a sheet of tin measuring ~ 550mm x 72mm and secure that to the top of the radiator, I used pop rivots to keep this firmly in place. This now gives a good lip to secure the the top of the AU shroud to,I used 4 self tappers to secure the top. 18 & 19 - Finished pictures of the radiator and AU's in the car, looks quite neat I think. All in all, its a pretty easy job, I doubt if any of your installs are exactly the same but hopefully it'll give a good outline on what steps to take. Cheers. Looks great stoney and very familar . Thats actually my setup and stoney moved it across here for me as loading all of them pics with dialup can be a slow process. ceejay_30 - I hooked up the fans using 2 x 30 amp relays (one for each fan) and a SPDT switch so I can override the ECU which will be controlling the on/off temps. Do you get much more power by using thermos over a belt driven fan?
