Hey Guyz Im soon getting my taxes back and i wanted to use it on fixing the rust in my VL...I already know that rust around the front and rear windshield is common in VL's...but I also have it on bottom lower guard where the drivers door is which isnt too bad...but will get ugly if i dont take action. Could Someone plz tell me from experience how much would it cost me to have the rust completely removed from my front windscreen and how much would it cost to have it removed from the lower part of the driver's side front door. Thanx, Cheers

its not that hard to do it yourself im gonna fix the rust around my windscreen myself this weekend ... its pretty bad, gets leaks over both passanger footwell and driverside, and gonna get a new windscreen put in on monday (about $180 installed onsite) done it on a few cars, use a wire brush drill bit and just go nuts on all the rust, could also use a dremel or a grinder or something... you might end up with some nasty holes but you just gotta get rid of all the rust... then brush on some rust converter... let that sit for how ever long... clean it up (prepsol) and put some primer on and then go nuts with the bog lol ... but if the holes are just too big then your probably gonna have to get some metal welded in wish me luck

hey ninetysix try using that fibrefill(fibreglass bog) its heaps stronger then normal bog

i already bought normal bog today, but i dont really have many holes, just a few little pin pricks, and 1 or 2 that are no wider than a pencil... so normal bog wont be a problem i think the leaks were mainly from the glue holding the windscreen in being too old *** smashed the windscreen getting it out too! glass everywhere....

haha, its not that bad even a 4" grinder would be overkill... the wire brush drill bit works a charm

i did mine the same way your doin yours ninetysix, i used a grinder with the wire brush attachment on it, found alot of surprises after usin this... i used fibrefill for strength then used normal bog to neaten everything out.... i used the vn style rubber for the screen too, makes everything look smoother now

I did all the rust around my front screens myself. Got out a screwdriver and a wire brush. Rust wasnt too bad. I tool off all the side and top moulds and took the rubber right back then refilled the gaps. Used fibreglass bog to fill the holes with, rubbed em back and now the thing looks good as new. Except for the part where i forget/couldnt be arsed to put the lower rubber back in...so now i have some more lovely rust re-appearing :X But i atleast stopped the leaks from the top of the windshield...used to have to carry a towel with me to hold up there during rainy periods

Ive got hardcore rust on the right hand side near the back window..on the pillar column thingo. One thing id never ever do it try scraping it off and bogging it. IT just seems really dodgy to me. U gotta get ALL the rust off and bog isnt gonna be strong enough. Im gonna get a mate of mine with a welder to simply cut off the rust plus about an inch clearance on both ends and weld a new peice of metal over it. So nighntysix if u got someone that can do it for ya do it that way or go to a panel beater/restorationer to fix it up. BUT be careful....ppl will charge u an arm and a leg and if not they'll bog it themselves. When its done get a frige magnet and place it over the place where the rust was. If it sticks a new peice of metal was welded...if not it was bogged and u slap the bloke silly. sorry for any spelling mistakes...its 553 in the mornin....no sleep lol...

If you guys want to attempt fixing it yourself, I suggest fully removing the rust.. then using that deoxidiser (rust remover) and applying some of that to the rusted area. If this is not done properly, rust will appear again in the next few months. I suggest seeing a panel beater about this, as they do it properly and weld a new plate in for ya. Good Luck.

seeing as the rust is right in the window sill, its gonna be a prick to weld a new section in, or would cost an arm and a leg to have it done. it really is only a minor ammount on mine, bog is just fine for this. definately remove all of it mechanically and then use rust kill/converter as stated
