looking at purchasing one as soon as my probation is over (dont bother about commenting on the fact im going from a holden to a ford - doesnt phase me)
basiclly want to know (apart from cooler and exhaust) what sort of mods are ppl doing to these cars - are there kits etc.??? and if so what workshops/manufacturers stock them/fit them
cheers
hey mate,
i am looking into modding our xr6t as soon as it runs outta warranty as you wont be covered if anything fails whilst using aftermarket mods and so on.
We have wound the boost up with no change of cooler or fuel system or anything for that matter but i remove the boost control before a service lol.
It really goes heaps better and you can really feel the big turbo doing its bit.
I really wouldnt touch the chips or plug in ecus either if i were you.
Just a boost upgrade absoloutly shat all over a mates one and he has standard boost wif cold air induction plug in excedy computer and a few other upgrades like exhuast and so on.
1st thing to mod is boost then go from there trust me.
Dont worry about cooler size its adequate and is doing fine on 12psi.
yeah factory warranty is a bitch, lucky my old man is a ford mechanic so he will overlook the mods when it gets serviced but i wouldnt mind upgrading the cooler, something to fill the air dam and screwing up the boost, the reason i started the thread was i hear round the traps you can have an 11 sec. XR6T for $10,000 worth of mods - just didnt hear what the actual mods were/are and am a bit sceptical - but what do you reckon, no regrets about the car? are they worth the cash???
mods-Get an auto.Theres a computer chip called capa flash tuner which u plug in load it in then when the cars goin 4 service plug bak in n turn bak 2 standard.Injectors, cooler and valve springs should do but anyfing goin over 300rwkw you need tto strengthn the bottom end.Go on the ford forms and have a look at Craig Geas carhasnt spent that much and the thing does 10.8 and its privatly owned
a mate took his auto mk1 xr6t to HPF and it dyno'd stock at 175rwkw (not low but not high)
they gave it a capa flash edit, put some nizpro valve springs in, and put some highflowed injectors in. tuned it up on 10psi and it made 260rwkw. should be capable of a high 12. cost him $3000, have since heard of the same deal for about $2500.
any more power than that and the auto gearbox will need a little work (about $1500 worth) to handle it, tho the 6 speed manual shouldnt have any trouble
the standard front mount isnt too bad but it does suffer from heat soak pretty bad. upgrade that to a nice big unit and run about 1 bar for a good 320rwkw... or so and a high 11

thats what i wanted to hear!!! thanks for the reply - i was looking at 250 rw/kw so that kind of answers my question of cost to get to that figure... cant wait to get one now!!!

The guy is on that forums that has like 560 rwhp or something like that. I haven't been on there for a while.

okey mainly just wanted to make something a little clearer.
we have had the xr on the dyno and you say 175rwkw and its not low nor high.
Now mate we had ours on the dyno and it spun up 203.2rwkw and that is from the factory dude and its a manual 5 speed.
Now we were told that this was not high nor low either prolly what they tell everyone hey.
Now the car has since had the boost raised wif no form of flash tuners which i personally believe are craip. If you gunna plug something in make it worth your while and get full aftermarket management then you will be up there.
if the flash tuners are so good howcome almost every person ive talked to about them end up taking them out and simply raising the boost as i did and it works better within reason.
heatsoak in the cooler dude nah it doesnt happen come down i take ya driving all day dude and come feel the cooler its as cold as ice man carnt see what you mean about that hey.
now all the mods you listed well if youve got the cash your sweet do them first i spoze but if you want a better bite of the apple from your fairly stock and unmodded xr6t just wind the boost into it lol exactly like vls wind em up and away they go.
Finally after doing i did not have any dramas wif fuel cut or anything like that hey.
this post is cool you should get some great posts on here.
so long as the die hard holden boys dont come in and spoil it
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
A guy at a mates work is in the xr6/8 club and when the were first about to be released he was invited to a day at calder driving them. A ford engineer told him that they can be anywhere between 220 and 270-280. They just called them 240 for 'government reasons'

but that was in a auto and urs was in a manual so it probly explains it
ive seen a few XR6's make around 200rwkw stock, but we are talking about results from different dynos here so that dosnt mean squat.
how do you up the boost without the ECU stopping the fun? how much did you raise it?
the motors are heavily restricted in their standard tune, dont try and tell me you can get 260rwkw just by upping the boost
if the edit & stock ECU is so crap then why are the 2 fastest XR6Ts (both running 10s) in australia using it?
the valve springs basically crap out at about 240rwkw, and the injectors wont go much/any higher than that...
and heat soak is definately an issue... have a look thru fordxr6turbo.com and you'll find some posts on it... one bloke had a few runs down the 1/4 and the times and MPH just got worse and worse after each run...
you can get pretty good straight swap coolers for less than a grand, easy hit the 300rwkw club with the edit, valve springs and injectors.
also dont bother touching the exhaust unless you just want it louder.
