Hey! Thought it was about time I made one of these threads since some changes are actually going to happen to the VL in the coming months. Today I went and stripped the interior of a Series 1 Calais, got the whole lot complete for $200! Its filthy but I'll take it to a detailers to get cleaned and it should come up tops. On Thursday this week Im going down again to get the Calais front and all the trims for another $300! Another bargain! Also I'm putting a few new suspension bits in her in the next couple of weeks, just replacing flogged out ****, nothing too fancy. Heres some pics of the old girl. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Picked up a VLT disc brake rear for it a couple of months back for $50. Will be ordering VT front conversion (297mm), Ultralows and Pedders GSR shocks in coming weeks. RB20DET conversion happening end of the year Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

RB20DET conversion happening end of the year N/A Calais and VLT rear discs are the same, im pretty sure anyway... RB20??? yuck... stick with the RB30, just get your existing motor rebuilt to turbo spec... cheaper and no need for engineers certificate (correct me if im wrong about eng cert)... if you simply must go for a later RB, go a 25DET neo, you can pick them up relatively cheap... ive heard from numerous people that RB20's are no good, not many gains, hit a brick wall power wise pretty quickly... but this is all my opinion... its your car, good luck with whatever you do to her Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I simply cant justify nearly an extra 2 grand to get the 25 when all I want to do is go a bit quicker than currently possible. Turboing my motor involves too many hassles imo, Id much rather pick up an RB20 with box and loom for $1500 and drop it straight in. F*ck the engineers cert, no one checks for them down here in Tassie anyway so it would be a waste of money. My insurance company told me I didnt require one to be covered either and said "we dont care what you put in there, as long as we know its there" lol. If I was chasing big power and low 1/4 times then Id definitely go the 25 but for now all I want is to finish this damn project which has been going for 9 months so far! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

No shortcuts. Cause I can get a low kays RB20 with box and loom for that price. Im still considering my options in terms of powering it. If I can stretch the budget I'll go with an RB25. An RB30ET conversion seems like way too much stuffing around to me, and I dont really want to bother with a 20 year old engine or gearbox. I just want something that can be delivered to my door, and I can drop in overnight. We'll see mate, we'll see...

A few developments! 1" Master cylinder and VR V8 double diaphragm booster have been installed. Series 5 RX7 4-spot calipers have been purchased and will be on as soon as I get VLT rotors and mounting adaptors. Took the struts out today to receive Pedders GSR9750 inserts, strut tops and Kings Ultralows. Rear has copped a pair of Pedders GSR9094 shocks, Kings Ultralows and a new set of lower trailing arms with Nolathane bushes. Still deciding on what to do enginewise.
