Hey ive got a pretty stock vl turbo just exhuast and t3/t4....its been dynoed at 130rwkw at 6 pound boost.....ive been offered to swap for a 5 litre calais which runs on gas and fuel...just wondering wat the V8 would go like to the turbo car and whether its worth the swap?

the v8 prob makes roughly the same power, so is it worth swapping for a performance gain probably not, as u could just get a cooler and wind up the boost and the vlt will go a lot better, but then again on gas the v8 would be cheap to run, and u can always do the heads and cam and it will go better again

Im a a V8 man!!! I love the sound and power of them!!! However..i feel there are not many better feelings than crusing along at 60kph at 2000rpm....then easing ever so gently on the throttle till you hear the turbo spool and and the whistle start to gain pitch and when you know its just on the threshold......bam.....flat charlie slippin and sliddin all up the hill!!! There's nothing more elegant!!! Stick with the 6!!!

do a swap for a week but make sure you both make up a contract stating any accidents will be paid for by the person driving so the problems are sorted out that way.
once you have taken the 8 for a spin you may find that you prefer it to your car vice vercer. best way to tell i reckon

There is a lot more potential with your 6 now that you have the t3 hiflow. If you want more power it would only take a cooler and a few extra pounds of boost and it should make a healthy 160+rwkw. 13 second car. Try doing that with a carby v8... on the cheap that is.

Ive heard some tough sounding VLTs but if it was me I would go the 5 LTR cause the 5 LTRs arent as common and they sound awesome too.
But if you want to make your VL a quarter mile beast I would stick with a Turbo.

cant go past driving it for a week to find out what you prefer the feel of.

09-06-05, 20:00 GMT+10#12 hey i think this is my v8 vl calais there talkin bout, its runs pretty well keeps with vl turbz with a couple mods, the motor was rebuilt 60k and a stage 1 cam was added, makes for a mild idle with the 2.5" zorst,so smooth to drive and i pay $ 13 to fuel up with gas and get about 300k out of it now compare that to a vlt

10-06-05, 22:02 GMT+10#17 The v8 I would think would be slower standard. Vl v8s aren't known for their power in standard form, nor economy, and the traumatic does nothing to help. But the v8 will obviously have more torque down low, less up high, and it's mostly a matter of personal preference and driving style. I like v8s... but I would like eventually to turbo my v8...
