A few years ago I bought a VC commie with a 333 strocker, 11.5:1 compression and a cam which is only producing around 7hpa of vacuum at idle and a bunch of mods i dont recall (stuff like balancing, port matching ), stage 3 t350. It's a fairly solid engine, with plenty of torque. Some time ago i ran a 13.1 with traction probs and 3.08 stock diff. Since then ive replaced that with a nine inch with 3.5's. Soon after doing that, it chewed the convertor (2800) so I replaced it with a 3000, probably not a great idea for a streeter, but hay..... A few things ive found with it, and my knowledge being limited, i cant figure out. Firstly, it surges pretty badly at around 5200 rpm. From what I understand this could be either a distributor problem, as I read the the stock electronic ignition is not much good above 5000 rpm, or a fuel problem as its feeding a 650 vac holley with 68 jets with a stock mechanical fuel pump and standard lines. Im pretty sure the standard electronic dizzy is faulty as advance is occuring even without the hose connected. Bottom Line....Anyone have any suggestion on better ignition systems and there prices and also fuel systems. Cash is a bit of an issue, and I know it wont take top of the line stuff. BLUMENE

I'd be looking at getting a decent fuel pump as the mechanical ones become pretty unrealiable with high revs. The carby is big enough, you could run a quaddy on there and it would be fine...

if its surging i would change the fuel pump, get a high volume mechanical pump i think redline make them. and run bigger fuel lines something like 1/2 inch from the tank to the pump, then 1/2inch to a holley presure regulator then 3/8 inch to the carbie. adjust your fuel presure to 6-7 psi then reset your float levels. i believe if it was your ingition it would just stop reving not surge. when my 355 had the standard ignition it still revved to 7500 but it wasn't making any more power past 6500 till i fitted a CDI then it made power to 7500 and revved to 8000

theres a few possibilities.... 1) get the dizzy curved 2) try a bigger carby 3) upgrade ignition system good luck sean Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
