Hi, I was wondering what performance gains and or engine damage would be caused by having a set of extractors and a 3 inch mendral bent exhaust fitted to my N/A VL calais. its run directly from extractors to the dump pipe cheers..guys. Craig.

is it a 308 or RB30e, if a 308, itll sound awsome, and go better than stock, there is also a noticeable difference to performance with both engines does that make sense ??

i heard theres actually a power loss with a 3inch on a n/a? dont know how true that is, i was told by a fair few people that 2 1/2 shud be the max to go on a n/a.sumfing to do with back pressure.im sure someone will correct me though

3 inch is to big for a N/A coz you will lose back pressure, just get a 2 1/2 inch system for the N/A..

just get the last muffler taken off and a straight piece of tailpipe put on, it sounds sweet, you get more torque and dont loose back pressure.

I thought backpressure only affected the exhaust note that it gave off? Personally I think the idea of having any backpressure to restrict flow, no matter how bad it makes your car sound... Isn't all that good on an N/A, as better flow = more power

naa, better flow = more power on a turbo i would of thought. i had the last muffler taken of sounds awsome

i cant be fucked reading what everyone else has written above lol but from what i know, a 3 inch on a n/a wont do it much good, as i believe it will make it lose power, and wont sound good at all. i would go for a 2 1/4 or a 2 1/2 max. with extractors it will make it sound sweet as well. on my old stock vk n/a i had a 2 1/2 inch exhaust with only one muffler, sounded pretty nice, but not too loud. as a bit of fun me and a couple of mates cut the whole exhaust off (pretty much) so no mufflers or anythin, wouldnt recommend doing it, as it is illegal, and the fumes r pretty dangerous, you always felt a high after you got out of the car afterbeing in their for a while. so i would go for a 2 1/4-2 1/2 exhaust, with extractors. should sound pretty nice . Doesn't back pressure in n/a's help with the next burn cycle somehow or another? Either way, drive a vl with a stock exhaust and floor it, then get into a vl with even a 2.5" and floor it and feel the difference. I find that the stock exhaust seems so much more punchier. It doesn't rev out as hard, but everywhere else it just cains.

turbos dont need backpressure due to the turbo forcing the air out therefore a bigger exhaust is requiered.. on NA's backpressure is needed to actually gain power. if there was no backpressure it would be very sluggish. Turbos need to force the air out therefore no mufflers are even needed. They would restrict flow. No damage will be caused to your motor if it has a 3inch on a NA.. dont be stupid.

One thing is for sure, a three inch straight through system will make a lot more noise, especially with extractors. The constant drone can be annoying and impossible to get rid of. If the engine is properly tuned, that is the ignition and fuel maps are properly changed to suit the lower exhaust back pressure, it will definitely go slightly better. But if you just fit the exhaust and change nothing else, it will probably lose low end and mid range torque and drop fuel economy. By the time you have fitted the exhaust and dyno tuned the engine, that is going to be rather a lot of money spent. If you think all that cash, and 700% more noise is worth about 5% more power, then do it. A noisy exhaust is going to make you cop bait too........... So count on a lot of hassles being pulled over and having lots of fines, demerit points, roadworthy checks, and other assorted trouble fairly regularly.

just go a 2 1/2 exhuast with extractors with a 3" tip not to loud and still get performance

3" tip will do jack to performance if your insinuating that! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

[QUOTE=bextor84]Doesn't back pressure in n/a's help with the next burn cycle somehow or another? yes extractors need exhaust fumes to allmost fill the pipe to create a back draft, because exhaust is denser then air. they are configured in firing order one pipe draging exhaust out of the next chamber to fire, a bit like standing next to a truck when it fly's by. there fore with a bigger exhaust the volume increases requiring more rpm to gain power thus moving most of ur power to top end. smaller exhaust vice versa. but obviously u can only go so far either way. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
