Guys just wondering wot is the purpose of taking the pressure relief valve of a vlt inlet manifold then blocking up that hole were it was?
Also is it illegal to do so ??
Thanks guys
Cos anything upto like ~9psi or so will open up the valve and vent boost, it was put there as a saftey from factory anything ova 9psi it will open so you dont blow ya motor, and when it opens trust me you know about it ya car bogs down, people take them off or weld them to be able to run more boost without it venting anything past ~8-9psi, it is not epa legal to have it welded or taken out, neither is boost controllers.

If no what r the dramas?
No you can't run that much boost without modifying/replacing it. It is originally designed as a safety mechanism for the off chance that the stock wastegate fails (eg. hose falls off, gate jams shut, etc.) and you get a huge boost spike. Stock boost = 6psi, overboost valve opens at a bit more than that, say 9psi. This protects the engine and stops it from eating a piston if something goes wrong. If you want to run 12psi, that is substantially more than factory boost and so you will have to do something about the overboost valve.
take it out, add a shim to the spring to increase it's rate. varying the height of the shim will increase the boost level at which it begins to vent. you can muck around with it until you get it say 2psi above what you want to run.
eg want to run 12psi, gradually add shims to the spring until it holds boost till 14psi then begins to vent. when it opens, you'll know all about it as it will make lots of noise and your car will bog down as the AFM reads lots of air going into the engine and fuels accordingly, while a whole bunch of this air is in fact NOT going into the engine. hence, rich running and dodgyness all over.
just block it up with a plug. 1" bung.
**** insurance, you dont need insurance as long as your turbo hoses are good.
I dont think many people have had their wastegate fail or a hose burst.
sounds like the kind of thing you'd want to have working... if it's just a matter of shimming a spring to get it right I don't know why you wouldn't bother...
hit a welsch plug in epa cant even tell its blocked, and your gonna know if your waste gate jams or your hoses splits cause your gonna notice the difference between say 9 and 15 pound.
