just wondering at what speed do you get boost in first gear, and does second really get alot of power, cos my auto does not really have stacks of power when it shifts to second, thanks

1st gear's to short to boost properly. 2nd is good, pulls nicely

I would rather you get a fully manualized auto gearbox,I'll Guarantee you will leave 5 speeds standing still Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Auto's Suck! As said, 1st is way too short to be any good for anything except taking off. 2nd is where the fun starts. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yep, 1st gear maxes out way to soon, can get too much wheelspin (if there is such a thing? ), but 2nd is very nice. I can feel the car sit right down on the suspension and pull away. I just love the feeling of the tyres being at their adhesion limit under boost and getting max acceleration. Now if the road is greasy, well that's a different story...................... how come boost is not reached at 2500 like an auto, i thought boost would be reached quicker in manual cos of the ratios?

It seems a bit of a silly question to me, maybe try putting your foot further to the floor?

1st Gear in my car comes on about 4 grand, it's not to but, but i dont get the set amount of boost. I'd probably get about 75% of it. 2nd gear, all hell usually breaks loose..... Ive had my car since 1987 and I can never get 1st gear the same as second ..... If you know of any practical ways of overcoming this let me know, Ive tried them all!!!!

Theres a few ways to go about this, BUT, you have to decide, do you want allround performance ? DO you want a good take off only ? Or do you want big topend ? Believe me when I say, for practical use, you just can't win. BUT, I still have a hell of a lot more fun with a manual than an automatic. I recommend you trying circuit racing. Its the best fun, and it last all day, unlike qauter mile racing, 9 to 12 seconds and it's all over.....

I don't mean to be mean, but if people take the time to say silly things, then why can't they just answer the question instead

sleff6: thanks for that dude with stock vl turbo's in manual and auto form which one would hit 70km/h first and then 100km/h, thanks

You should send ILLUSIV a PM and ask him to take you for a spin, you could then see for yourself. I am sure he would be open to the idea. BTW, there will be big differences between stock an moddeed as spool times will be greated with bigger turbo, cooler etc. With two stockies, I think that the manual is slightly quicker, do not quote me on that

Well on my conversion- 1st gear lasts a whole of about.. 3-4 seconds if I'm under it.. Definately if you change into second too soon you notice it sits down until boost starts to surge in. Wouldn't be a problem with auto as its all just constant. When I get my car back from the mechanics I'll figure out what revs I'm spooling and what revs I'm on 7psi in each gear.. From memory though, I'm fairly sure I had full boost at 3k in 2nd. Which is about 60km/h I think. Spooling was around 2-2.25k.
