Hey guys
Last nite I noticed my gears were very hard to change as I was driving home from work. It wouldnt go in gear and kept stalling. Driving on the highway was fine until I had to stop at the lights. The car kept stalling. I limped It into a carpark and found my fluid was low, so I refilled it and the gearbox was smooth once again.
However, I went to drive it again this morning and the same thing has happened. I looked under the car but there was no fluid leaking. Could my seals just be gone on the slave cylinder? I havent had a chance to look at the master cylinder yet but its hard to believe that the fluid is low gain.
Has anyone had these troubles?? When the car is in neutral it will idle fine, but as soon it is put into gear, with the clutch still in it stalls and I struggle to get it into first.
Cheers for the help guys
yeah id say you have a leak somewhere dude, mabey the bleeder valve has come loose. same thing happened to me but the master cylinder was leaking the fluid into the car, near the clutch pedal.
it sounds similar to my problem, however my gearbox was full of fluid. Part of my clutch had broken and the car was hard to get into anygear and would then stall. I had to buy a new clutch and its all good now........
Mine does it also. I find if I run out of clutch fluid and I refil it I need to give the clutch a few decent pump before starting as it feels really light...
So give the clutch a few pumps before selecting a gear and you'll notice the difference. And justkeep your fluid up! I gotta fill mine up once a month or so...
ok i checked the fluid and its full. its really wierd i cant get it into gear at all and the harder i push the more it goes to stall its like its not engaging. could it be my throw out bearing?? any one got any ideas??
the clutch is really soft now, it used to be kinda tough to push in but now its like my gf charade where u need no effort at all
alos, the fluid id pretty brownish looking, could this be my problem???
was the pedal really soggy? like no resistance at all?
when you filled the reservior back up did you bleed the system properly
(ie. fill-bleed-refill) until you got a good pedal pressure? if not, i'd try that first.
yeh the pedal was really soggy, so much play in it
i will bleed it tomorrow i think. maybe i got some air in the system somehow? maybe because the seal is gone. or the fluid was low
cheer mate ill bleed it
maybe you just cant drive hahaha
I had a pretty stuffed slave cylinder and i eventually replaced it for $50...
BUt when i used it for a bout a wek or so.. it wasnt that bad.. teh dust cap was stuffed.. but the pedal felt stiff and jerky..
oncei replaced teh slave cyliner.. it is more smoother..
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
I'd definately be flushing that clutch fluid. Refill it again and then your going to have to keep it quite a few decent pushes to get that pressure back and rid the air from the system... It will take a few days...
Im not sure if this is relevant for the VL 5spd, but on my hilux ute someone had unscrewed the hydraulic fluid cylinder (probably the master cylinder not to sure) I refuse to fix the old yella dragon. But that sounds something like what happened to me. The fluid had been drained out and there was slight leak in it where someone had put a hole
i had have had a problem like this, just mine was the master cylender and it wouldnt go into gear at all - just had to drop it is and bring the flywheel up to speed - do do the crunch swap!
luck i had a mates shop only 3 blocks away!
it looks like ive solved the problem. looks like there was air in the line somewhere. i bled the valve and shes fine now but i think ill buy a new slave cylinder.
what are they worth?
