Hi guys tonight i was at a new BP in sandringham...or highett, we'll say border of sandringham and highett it just opened up this week or last, and i pulled in an noticed they had BP Ultimate Unleaded 98 Octane. Anyone else use this on their N/A's? Is it worth it has quite a bit more octane than the standard 91 in unleaded and premium is 95 octane. Ive never heard of Ultimate Unleaded before but guy who works there said i could use it on my car and it would increase responsivness as long as it was tuned properly, he didnt really look like what he knew what he was talking about so i wanna make sure. does anyone use this at the moment? and just out of curiosity how *** long has this stuff been out?...am i a lil slow? cause i have never seen ultimate unleaded at any other fuel pump or even BP outlet

its been out in adelaide for ages now, probly a year i reckon. Ultimate supposibly gives more power to the car, is more ecconomical, better for the enviroment, and leaded, or unleaded cars can use it. me and al mi mates use it, u can sorta notice a little bit of a difference, not much though.

its good stuff i swear by it and my car is also tuned for it.. It has things in it that clean your engine and u will probably get better milage out of it but if u dont have the extra cash to spend seen as your car is n/a its not important wether you run it or not.. You can always try it for a couple of weeks and see if your car runs better and see how many k's you get out of a tank. Rob

maybe the areas i refuel in lack them??? either me and my mates are blind or the servos we go to dont have ultimate, so i can just chuck it in next time i refuel? dont have to do anything special other than tune?

You don't have to touch anything - just fill it up. I use it because I need the higher octane to help combat pinging. It's something you'd use if you wanted to advance your timing a fair bit. However, its hardly worth it given the price of it around the place.

You've only just found it down there now? That's funny... When will ya's be getting electricity down there? BP Ultimate is just the highest octane fuel you can buy from servo's. It will give you more milage (after a few tanks have been used) allow you to advance your timing without pinging. May give slightly better power (but not expect anything), will clean your engine at the same time too... Nothing will be noticed until you've run about 2-3 tanks of the suff...

Its basicall usless on a NA.. Just use 95 RON fuel.. itll eb good eceno economical wise ... if your VL is turbo or modified.. your better off going 98.. but only depending on your cars setup..

Sorry BADVLSL, but i cant agree with your statements about 98RON fuel being a waste of time in an N/A. I have been using 98RON for about 54 months now and have noticed a huge difference in the way the car runs and its fuel ecconomy. I have not noticed any increase in performance from my car in the time that i have been using the fuel, as was initially advertised by one particular brand, but i do notice savings @ the bowser. Some fiqures for you to ponder, on 91RON ULP ave consumption was 12.75l/100km. Using BP Ultimate my ave consumption is 10.23l/100km and best result i have recorded is 9.75l/100km. Whilst i dont have fiqures to confirm this, i expect similar results from Shell Optimax as this is the PULP i was first using. It became clear to me after numerous interstate trips that the 98RON PULP was much better in assisting fuel ecconomy that either 95RON or 91RON. Switched to BP Ultimate for two reasons, (a) can not buy Optimax here in Adelaide, (b) BP servo within easy reach of home. Here in Adelaide u can expect to pay anywhere from 8-10cents a litre more for 98RON PULP and 5-8cents more for 95RON PULP. My advice is stick with the 98RON. I have had this car from new so i know that there have been no modifications to the timing or other so as to accept the higher octane fuel. Other than a set of headers its a stock 88 VL SL 5spd. Cleaner burning means less crap in your engine and i have had this confirmed by a mechanic (read my cuz!) who has pulled apart and rebuilt many engines.

i notice i tiny difference using 98 ron to using the reg (93?) unleaded in my n/a, really not worth the extra 12 or so cents per litre in my opinion. The turbo on the other hand wont run on anything else

Yeah standard unleaded make my car run so bad! BP Ultimate makes my car faster and wayyyy better economy. My mate has a stock vlct and he ran a 14.5 with BP Ultimate and then 14.09 with octane booster. Makes a crazy difference!

ive gone thru almost 2 tanks of ultimate now and i have actually noticed a considerable change in fuel economy i have used just more than 1/4 of a tank and cars just hit 200km for the tank so far. and i have noticed a little bit of a power gain nothing much. mates dad started to run it in a porsche 944 i think, he goes its ridiculous the amount of power its added and how the car runs.
