I have a VL V8 which is dead standard, heres what I'm thinking of doin, VN heads Kitted rochester Extractors/ exhaust Cam I know of the harrop and torque power manifolds both around the $750 mark but what other manifolds could work in this application, I take it the VN heads suit a different style of manifold than the old heads? Thanks,

yeah, the VN heads have a different port layout so you need to change the intake, cam and headers too. Just do the basics, open up the ports on the head, bigger valves, better springs, maybe rockers if you can afford the, port match the intake. The heads are very important when it comes to making power, and of course the cam. As you say the engine is stock so you can't go all out else you'll break the 2 bolt bottom end. A good quady will certainly do the job with the right jets. If you want to go further then get your ignition upgraded or regraphed. I would personally start with a bulletproof bottom end before going too wild on top, I suppose you can always just transfer the top end to a new bottom end if your break it.

bloke stick with the vl heads but bet them built to l34 specs then get a redline maxitork manifold as for the cam go a crane 286 as its the biggest you can go with stock valve springs. get any aftermarket extactors with twin 2.5 inch or single 3 inch. Advise the bloke that does your heads of what your plans are and you should have an easy 200-250 rwhp if you dont theres something wrong.

theres a manifold called a redline hi winder it goes for about 500 to 600 its for vn heads its a single plain but its not a high rise if your in nsw sams performance do a few little tricky mods to them to make them just as good as a harrop or tourque power

What kind of specs can VN Heads be ported to? How would they compare to those yella terra dash 9 heads. VL383 was running a set of B cast heads I think on his.. and made really good power (touch of nitrous too)..

definately go vn heads, dont fall out of it! vl v8 std 122kw, vn v8 std 165kw, and it wasnt cause of the efi, it might of helped a bit.. but it was all in the heads. The VN heads are 460hp out of the factory, not many factory heads can flow that much, u dont even need to port them and u can still make over 400hp. Definately get a torque power, i had a single plane but sold it due to a combo change and i miss it bad! very nice piece of gear

Even though mine do flow quite well for B-cast heads they are pretty much close to there limit around 460-470hp. If I had my time from start again would definitely go for VN heads.

alloy heads are awesome if you can afford them, I had a pair of Edelbrocks on my Chev and I could literally pick one up with one hand easily, and that was fully assembled with rockers, valves...etc. And of course they don't corrode. The heat dispersion is also great but you have to stud them down else they'll warp!!!!
