It all started when my brother bought the car "87 factory VL turbo wagon" for a tidy price of 4 grand.
Now up until then I had never really been interested in VL's, I was the proud owner of an 89 (red) gts skyline but as soon as I was taken for a spin in the wagon it all changed. Not long after purchasing the car my brother took the wagon to Mikes Dynos in Dandenong because it wasnt running right.
They told him it had a hole in 1 of the pistons and would need a rebuild and was quoted $3500. So he had the motor rebuilt to standard specs with acl pistons, ported head and stage 1 cam.
After a cople of months the car was ready and when my bro went to pick it up the car was still doing the same thing and in the end it turned out to be a faulty injector. Not only that the price had been bumped up to nearly $6000.
As you can imagine my bro was not a happy camper and when the auto, diff and the turbo started packin it in my brother decided to call it a day and wash his hands of it.
Thats where I come in I seen potential and ive always liked to be the 1 with something diferent so I sold the skyline and was know a VL turbo wagon owner. I had decided that I wanted it 2 be a 12 second street car so first thing was to put hi flowed t3, 3inch manderal bent exzorst and some 3.9 lsd diff gears.
I was not impresed at all with the power gained and decided that I was gona go all out and build the fastest street friendly package possible "around 300-350 RWKW" and also keep it as much a sleeper as possible and with it being a wagon was not hard to do. So after doing some research I decided to go with the GT35/40 roller with .82 rear for quicker spooling rated at 650hp.
Then I went shopping for a new auto and after several recomendations I spoke to Paul at KEAS and decided on a 4n71b with 3200 stally. Cam was the next piece of the puzzle and I was sent to Clive cams another highly recomended business, told him my plans and he did the rest.
Now the next thing to do was to have it all put in and this work shop I can not thank them enough. I decided to take her all the way down the other side of town to another highly recomended work shop CREATD motorsports in Campbellfield.
But before that I had also purchased some 363 injectors, 044 fuel pump, surge tank, catch can, high mount exstractors, custom plenum, turbo smart 45 mm w/gate and supersonic b.o.v, black 600x300x80 (core) cooler, crane hi6 cdi and lx92 coil along with EMS 8860 ecu and a much needed vt front brake upgrade with sloted and drilled 330mm DBA rotors.
I was told the motor would be safe to run about 280kw safely and after a bit of thought I decided on anoter rebuid with aries forged pistons, shot peened and balanced rods arp head studs and rod bolts a gtr oil pump and hi energy sump.
This i engine was told would be good to safely make 400rwkw. Also thrown in was a custom fuel rail and electronic boost controller. It took a good 5 months to get done but the workmanship speaks for itself and exceeded my expectations. Now ive got the task of running her in and let me tell you its such a tease.
The most thing I love about the car is its sleeperness many a time have I lined up at the lights with guys in there wrxs v8s and skylines all laughing at me only to be choped and that wipes the smile from there face its such a buzz.
Now with the new package im sure to be putting a few hi class cars to shame aswell and ill let em know it too.
So the next time you see a vlt wagon on the street dont be suprised if its running 10s "1 day".
