trying to pull the heads off the v8. I've got everything undone, but it don't wanna come off. I've tried wedging stuff between the waterpump and the front of the head. no luck. is there something i'm missing? oh, also, the dizzy don't wanna come out. I've undone the bolt that holds that little metel wire thingy that holds the dizzy done, it does come up a couple of mm, but just won't budge any further.

have u removed all 10 head bolts ? the later blocks have a extra 2 bolts they might be covered in scum , so that could be 12 u nede to get i just get a pry bar and lever the head off the water pump/timing cover with a lrg screw driver with the dissy just twist as u pull up , nothing eles that holds them apart for the 1 clip and engine scum

If everything is undone, use a rubber mallet or similar and give it a couple of taps.

the gaskets can hold them in there pretty good, just use a big screwdriver to gently prise it up

haha, ah well.. yeah, 2 bolts were still holding it on. covered with scrum pretty well. Was using a book for vb - vk v8 engines. undid the 2 bolts, and she came off straight away. Thanks guys!

Dizzy hrmm dunno why that would be stuck, thats weird.. its not attatched by any sealants afaik, unless its somehow got stuck to the dizzy gasket but i doubt it.. wait till u get the heads off then youll have more room to go at it with a crowbar or something Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

F**K those things are a pain when you're working with a dirty engine bay at night. You always forget about them Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

What i've discovered so far: lots of oil scum stuff everywhere. and second, the 1st piston on the drivers side of the motor has gone up and rammed the head. piston has a few indentations in it from the head now. head looks fine. valves look fine. As for the dizzy, i got that out. just had to leaver it out. Was a heap of crap stuck around it. bloody broke my little rotor button also taking it out ah well, should buy new one anyhow. Still got the second head to take off. I think i'll just leave it on for now because i've decided to pull the entire motor out now. i'll take it off later Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

see on the first piston where its kinda shinny. thats where its been hitting the head. I'm guessing its this piston that caused the motor to seize. Also, are these the standard VL pistons?

yeah , must of done a big end , the piston is stuffed anyways so get a self tapper and screw it in the hole in middle of piston , should get a turn or two and see if u can slide the motha out of the bore , you gunna rebuild it or shonk it up and sell it ?

gonna rebuild it, register it on the road again, and drive it around and see how i like it. might sell it, might keep it. All this car requires to be in rwc again is a working motor. everything else is sweet. Reason i ask if these are the standard vl pistons or not is because they look different to the ones that i have in my vb-vk repair book. i don't have a vl one. I've got that "how to rebuild & hotrod holden v8" book but. and they don't look like any in there either. So i'm wondering if these are aftermarket higher compresson ones or not? When i got the car, i had no idea what was done to it. So far i've worked out its got extractors, 2.5" exaust, heatseeker cam, and aftermarket intake manafold. I think its got bigger valves in the head also. Cuz the sides of the intake, and exaust ones are pretty close. wouldn't be able to fit any bigger.

they only look like stock pistons , but i havnt seen anyfor some time , clean the top and see if they have anything stamped im them , i think all VL's had the large valves , what type of inlet did it have ?

there stock cast pistons, definatly got some issues if the slug touched the head... might be worth throwing the rod too, crank would have taken some pounding too.
