mate, I think you're clutching at straws to get any info off here, even if someone did "do the job" on your VL they are hardly going to admit it on a public forum and incriminate themselves!!!!

If all the tags/numbers match up, the cops/road authority in your state say it's fine i wouldn't worry.

Im not worried, just pissed that it was almost going to be un registerable, the cops wanted receipts for the interior, which is something I just didnt have, and how/why can you declare a vehicle a write off because of a stripped interior? What benefit would you gain in doing this??? I dont expect any info on the car, doesnt matter now, but never heard of anything like this, maybe im naive or just used to living in a small ****hole town.

if a car is stripped to the point where replacing everything thats missing would cost more than the market value of that particular car, it is considered a write off. generaly this is only when a car is insured, the car might then be auctioned. if u buy this car from auction you must then produce reciepts for everything that you have replaced on the car before they will register it. that is to make sure everything is legit.

Yeah never trust the previous owners if you don't know them! After I bought mine i found out sooo many things that the seedy previous owner didn't tell me. some things were...
it had been broken into (i found broken glass under the back seat and the locks are bent)
odomoter had been turned back and as a result doesn't work anymore
He said the car was COMPLETELY stock (someone had installed air con cuz 86 SL's dont have aircon)
he said it was original paint (it had been sprayed)
and how's this for seedy.... i recently found that my owners manual that came in the glove box was for a FcUkn Mitsubishi! haha that is bad.

Heaps of VL odometers stop, there is a little cog inside that gets a small hairline crack and looses its grip.
As for the respray (score!!)
Also maybe he just didnt think to tell ya about it getting broken into? Or it could have happend to the previous owner before him..
Id say that its just common vl problems mate!

I wouldn't be complaining about the respray but one of the reasons i bought it was because i thought the original paint was in great condition hence it had been looked after. as for it being broken into he said they 'tried' but didn't succeed. sounds like crap to me haha.

yep alot of little dodgy things, like an 11 inch coarse thread bolt in the block from the oil return line, when its supposed to be 12 fine, moron just siliconed it and shoved it in, if that had of let go i could have had some probs!!! and the suspension seems to have been heated (springs) then putting pressure on that spring till it hardens, cheap ass lowering job, makes the car incredibly bouncey... just gonna have to give the whole car an overhaul, takes time and more money, but at least ill know everything is done right and legit

Don't like the history of this car Was it an original factory turbo, or did it used to be a V8 or a Six N/A? I actually saw one in melb last yeas for sale, it had beige interior with re/silver paint and plates were also QLA-???. Maybe a co-incidence.
