Hey guys, I thought maybe some of you could help me here. Im looking at buying a car with an aftermarket turbo. I cant get it engineered without that $4000 epa testing crap if its on petrol. Does anyone know if having straight gas will allow me to go without this expensive testing? Does straight LPG still let you get around getting EPA'd? I asked my engineer and he still said I needed the test done in a lab to get a certificate saying it meets emissions before he puts a compliance plate on it. Can anyone help? Thanks a lot.

EPA engineers can be costly and tricky.. Running your car on Gas will get you around EPA.. but it aswell isnt cheap if you also want to go quick.. and you wont need a ECU with Gas Just ignition i think... Also try doing a search http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/search.php? should find some more good info. Rob Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Well I just rang the EPA and I will still need to have the emissions tested on gas. He said for a conversion like that the Straight gas route is really only good for cars that were carbueretted previously. Newer cars will still need the test straight gas or not It must be different for you guys having the factory turbo as an option. FARK! Im not happy. Does anyone know if emissions can be tested elsewhere? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I have decided to keep my car and not upgrade anyway now. There is no point spending 25K on a new car when I can be defected in my own one lol. Time to get the EB running 11's I think.

Thats what I figure, an XR6T will be mid 20's by next year. Or I could just buy aVL and be done with it.

guys VL'S on gas are not epa legal the straight gas thing to get around epa's only apply's to pre 86 model cars ring the epa if the car has bigger turbo ect then it needs an adr37 epa test vipac ( www.vipac.com.au (http://www.vipac.com.au) ) do it for about $2400 so bottom line if your vl has any non standard parts turbo ecu plenthum cooler & pod filter ect ect even if you put it on gas its still not legal dont bother arguing with me replying back yes it is just RING THE EPA AND ASK THEM

I agree with above, thats exactly what I was told today. Is it only $2400 for the test?

If you have a striaght gas car, you must ensure it is COMPLIENCED otherwise it will not be EPA legal. Keep in mind stuff like external wastegates, catch can's venting etc are still illegal Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

from what i'v been told you still need an ADR-37 epa test. paul do you mean the ADR-37 epa test when you say COMPLIENCED ? if so disregard this post and have a nice day Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

only if plumbed back and you have this ADR-37 test done because its NOT STANDARD from the factory

To compliance it through an engineer they make you get it ADR 37 tested first before they will approve anything, this is the problem Im having at the moment. Farken EPA!

so paul, when u say complienced u mean u have the ADR-37 test completed on yoru car? does that mea if i had the same mods on my car that your test applies? and what did the test cost or is it $1600 or so dollars as said before? thanks chris

Yes anything that vents is illegal.. Catchcans are allowed but they have to be sealed units so no venting.. External Gates are also illegal because they vent Gases.. Like Bov's.. thats why cars that have a standard bov's have the bov plumbed back/vented back into the system.. Incase someone didnt know Rob Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

but an external gate that has the outlet plumbed back into the main exhaust (and not a screamer pipe) would theoretically be legal, yes? assuming you could get an engineer to pass the turbo, and pass emissions... lol
