I need to ditch the traumatic... Can anyone tell me how hard it is/what is required to convert a vl v8 to the t5 box? I know the brocks/walkies came with them, but im assuming I'll need to use a later box just due to availability. Also would it be much harder to use a t56? What would be the differences between the t5 and t56 conversions? Thanks, any help is appreciated.

most t5's will fit. just need the tailshaft, clutch, pedals, starter, bell housing, ect. ect. buy a kit, it'll save you many a headache..

Some places used to have a kit for this, hdt or castlemaine rod shop etc,I live in Newcastle like you and I had Promac do mine, good job not cheap but aint broke it yet,if you cant get a tailshaft hardi spicer can shorten yours and it will hold, chase some parts yourself, get a waranty on the T5 and find out if a V6 T5 can do the job havent heard much about this box but there out there, happy shifting.

Anyone know about the t56? Be nice to have a 6 speed box... Boyracer: How much did Promac charge you, out of interest? I'm looking to do the job myself but I'm just curious. Thanks.

if you're dead set on a t-56 i'd have a talk the Mal Wood Autos, they're good guys and will sort you out with what you're after http://www.malwoodauto.com.au/ if you're still thinking t-5s it might be the better option to try to find a VK/VL t-5g since the later model t-5s are chev bolt pattern which means if you use one of them you'll either need to get that bolt pattern drilled on your block, use a custom bellhousing or get an adapter plate - whereas a VK/VL t-5g will go straight in.

i threw a supra 5spd in my vl and it went in pretty easy got a kit from crs and then you gotta get a box a clutch cable some pedals and rubbers and litle bits for the clutch goes really well and boosted the economy by a lot.
