Hey guys for the rebuild of my car I have been down many many isle's in what to do to get Horsepower outof this bad boy This is what has been done to it so far 253 Red Motor Bored 60 thou Flat top pistons Shaved heads Hardened valve seats double spring valve springs flowed intake on heads twin link timing chain Edelbrock Performer Air Gap intake manifold 650 Holley ....now due to the nature of the carby 253's being very tough engines so i have put my foot down and decided to go supercharged....im guessing the comp ratio is bout 10 : 1 do i have to bring this down?? and who in australia does superchargers for 253's???

you could prolly get away with just bolting on a blower and not touching the bottom end... aslong as you aren't going to run huge boost.. seen as you have allready gone to the trouble of rebuidling it

Hnestly if i were you i would either sell it [253]but that wont get your money back or just drive it until it is worn out. I know you dont wanna here this but here go's 304/308 start with something with the cubes already the 253 & 10-1 comp is to high unles you r only going to run very low boost. It's already 60thou so bassically at it's limit anyhow & flat top pistons arnt ideal for boost either. The sad part is for you it cost the same to build a 253 as 308 & you get 50 cubes for free. I know you probably didnt want to hear this but just letting you know the options. Good luck

hows your 4 speed going to handle it ? sorry it wont , and if u fit a early commodore diff it wont like it at all , i use to have a VC 253 , 4 speed , almost the same specs as the commodore cup race cars , Monthy one of two things use to happen i would smash a 4 speed or brake the center riverts out of the clutch , almost weekly i would snap axles and evey now and then strip crown wheel or pinion or just snap the flange off where the tail shafts bolts to the diff you would have to get a turbo 400 or something like it , bout 1800 to get tricked up and get a new bellhouing welded on to suit the 253 get a 10 bolt with good lsd maybe a locker or even a 9 inch forgies in the donk would be a + aswell , other wise u wont want to be running anymore then 5psi or so, then it goes down to the Rods ? how much power can standard holden rods take ? and the list goes on , so maybe if u had $10 000 to play with u might get it going some where

u cannot chuck a roots blower on a engine with a 10.1 comp and run it on pump fuel, it will ping so hard the pistons will melt and smash into bits and will peel off the rods before falling down into the sump and causing more trouble like bending rods and sending them out the side of the car Only option would be to run a very tall head gasket that would drop the comp down but then that means u have a big gasket which will probably be more prone to busting. I'd look at other options, like a 330 stroker or something. Or even a 308 with acl race series pistons, prepped rods and crank, slap boost into that. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Mate if money is no object sell the 253 and get a 350 chev, then decide what you want to do..honestly you are very limited with your options with a 253 and there is only so far you can go....trust me stop with the 253 now and build something right the first time.

Just stick with a 308. The reason for this is, you will eventually get the power bug and you will want more power. You can only go so far with a 253, at least with a 308, you have ALOT of options to choose from. Do it properly once, it will be cheaper in the long run Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
