G'day all
I bought my Calais in November 2004 after looking around for a nice looking Calais for a while for a nice price...
Two weeks after i bought it it was having some serious electrical issues, im not sure what exactly but it sat at the auto electricians for a week while they tried to work it out, then when i picked it up and was racing to meet up with the WA CT cruise that was underway at the time it died again. Then sat back there for another few days and they said some old connector plugs had become corroded and would come loose while driving and cut out the ignition. Also we noticed at the time it had a VL Manual ECU, instead of the Auto ECU.
Since then the only problems ive had are the old fusible links were corroded and caused the car to cut out again, it has a slight miss on Idle And it leaks oil from the sump and back of the gearbox.
1st things I did for improvements was buy new tail lights and center garnish, k&n filter, mp3 player and 6x9's, find new screws to put in where some were missing, new brake pads, fuel filter, plugs, leads, dizzy rotor, coolant flush and new radiator cap
Its a 1988 Series 2 Platinum Gold Calais - 3L NA Auto
It has -
Stock Engine
Lukey Extractors
Custom 2.5inch Sports Exhaust
K&N Panel filter in std airbox with snorkel removed
Advanced timing - god knows how much, but it goes good and has never pinged
This has given me 122rwhp and 16.7 @ 134kph for the quarter mile
Since then I have added an XF Tb and ported Plenum, and 3" stainless intake piping
Also has -
VLT front rotors and calipers, still need to put on 1" master cylinder and VLT brake booster.
Polished Calais rims
Comming VERY VERY soon...
VLT auto with Keas Stage III shiftkit
VLT LSD diff - is getting rebuilt with 300 pound springs
Cruise control - the original cruise control was removed by a previous owner, and I've picked up another setup to put in.
Mod's I'd like that are money dependant:
Custom Plates
Twin Throttle Body Intake manifold, maybe some headwork.
TURBO Motor transplant!! or maybe even a V8...
Interior - Extremely stock looking, and in very excellent condition, Still has standard steering wheel
Rear Venetian
Pioneer MP3 Player
Alpine 4" speakers in front
Pioneer 6x9's at the back
Things that annoy me:
Front Passenger side window seal keeps slipping down whenever the window is opened, allowing an annoying wind noise.
Door seal on drivers door sometimes leaks when it rains or i wash the car.
I want to go faster.
Dent in Engine sump (i dont know how it got there and my gf wont admit to it)
Some of these pics are from Motorvation, which I entered with the CalaisTurbo display
Cheers,
Steve

Yeah thats not bad mate. Would look better if it was dark blue, had a V8 and colour coded walky wheels though.
Good to see you doing things properly, ie the diff and box. Motor will come, do it right, once!!
Cheers Steve.

Looks awsome mate, what i dont get is...you have a list of future mods, that supposedly will come 'sooner than later' and it ends with an engine transplant...why pour bucketloads of money into an engine just so you can eventualyl rip it? I know its always tempting to modify your car,but why not just save up so you can do the engine transplant and then modify THAT engine?
*edited*
yeah i know what you mean, and everything is money dependant, but obviously if i want some work done to my existing motor, and i really know that within a year i will be able to afford the V8 etc conversion i really want if I keep my money in my pocket for the time being, then I will do so. Like im a poor arse, but i know ppl that can help pretty cheap if i would like various things done or cheap parts etc etc.... but like i said, everything is money dependant
Cheers all for comments
