had this car for about 6yrs now (auto SL, a/c) and decided to do an ecu check.. car starts fine, runs well, no smoke, has home-CAI job on it. seems to idle "fat" (rich smelling), so i unplugged the throttle switch (not TPS, the other one).. here are the results of my ecu check. 12 - AFM code 14 - Vehicle speed sensor 21 - Ign. signal 23 - throttle Switch 31 - A/C 12 - AFM - got me ****ed, as the car runs, revs and starts ok.. last time i measured the AFM, it was 382 ohms i seem to remember. 14 - VSS - this is prolly the cause of my wierd auto tranny? sometimes skips 2nd around town and revs 1st out a bit, then grabs 3rd.. on the hwy, it'll go straight to O/D sometimes and not come out unless you move the shifter manually. 21 - Ign sig. - Got me ****ed, as per AFM 23 - Throttle Switch - As mentioned i unplugged it and it seemed to fix the idle and not affect anything else 31 - A/C - My A/C is in pieces atm, off the car, so ignore. Anyone else shed any light on any of these? car uses 20L / 100 around town, always has.. i drive it hard around town.. a tank nets me ~400km mostly town, 500 on a hwy trip. thanks Joel

first off man, reset the codes on the ecu, chances are your ecu picked up an afm malfunction once in the 6 years you've had it, if you don't know how to reset the codes send me a pm and i'll look it up for you. then recheck the codes. you need to drive the car to cancel code 14, depress the accelerator fully to cancel 23, and turn the a/c on to cancel 31. mileage seems about right, is it turbo or na?

its an N/a, those codes were taken after a reset and while poking along the hwy @100km/h, after a big hammering.. i have the pass. footwell cover off and noticed the lights blinking in the dark.. those are the codes i got.. disregard the A/C code, the compressor is off the car atm thanks for your quick reply. JM Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

ah cool, in that case, according to your ecu, you have a few probs to sort out. although i'm not convinced that your vss, afm, and throttle switch are all not working. i guess go through them one at a time. see if you can swap afm's off another car, your vss is located on the back of the speed in your dash. it is a disc with reflective strips on it which passes through a sensor, it might be full of dust or connection is bad. throttle switch as far as i know is just behind the accelerator pedal although i could be wrong, it might be part of the throttle position sensor on the side of the throttle body, try pressing the accelerator pedal hard to see if it cancels the code. go buy a gregory's manual, it will guide you through how to check for all these problems. also from what i remember, disregard code 21 as this code sometimes comes up when there is no problem (says this in the manual).

I get about 250km out of $50 worth of fuel I don't know whats wrong with it either. probably heaps. getting aftermarket ecu soon anyhow. no afm. yey Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
