I bought a set of repco lifters a few weeks ago, and finally have the time to install them. My whole engine ticks and I've tried rebuilding the lifters once and they tick worse than ever after that. They aren't chipped at all, but I'd guess they are the original ones in there as they are genuine nissan parts. This morning I changed the oil to some cheap stuff. The idea here is to clean the engine out and then tomorrow, I'm going to change the lifters and put in better oil (Castrol Magnatec). I have the lifters submerged in oil at the moment in a bucket to get them full of oil. Don't want to start them up dry. Is there any particular way they should be soaking? Is sitting on their base ok or should they be on their side with the hole facing up? At the moment they are standing up on their base, and I've seem little bubbles coming from the hole on top. So I'm guessing they are filling up. There is one more thing. There is one lifter that I can compress all the way down, so that the nipple on the top of the lifter is level with the lifter body. Me, I don't think that's a sign of an entirely healthy lifter. Should I put it in and hope it's ok. If it isn't, I'll be taking it back and wanting a new one. Or should I just take it back now. (I'd rather put it in a hope than take it back, coz I'm not going to get another chance to do this for months!)
