G'day guys, can anybody help me out here!!
I'm running a twincam head on my rb30E motor. will be using the rb20det loom and computer, or a link computer. I will be getting keas to rebuild my transmission, however what happens with the computer side of things?
I know the jatco wont work without interfacing with the engine ecu, would the jacto computer be able to plug straight into the rb20det ecu? should i have got an automatic engine ecu?? u know, like the rb30 has manual and auto ENGINE computers right?? anyone?
Any help much appreciated, cheers
it will be a mother of a problem, personally what i'd do is get a LINK or something else which is fully programmable. paul will set you up with a full manual valve body if you'd like, then the computer doesn't have to do anything.
as far as i know, all the different ECU does in the VL is deal with neutral/park start switches, and moderate when the transmission will shift by speed sensing (ie. won't go into 2nd until 18km/h, won't go into overdrive till 67km/h etc) so basically i'd piss it off and get a programmable ECU.
i agree, VL auto computer doesnt do much. get it manualised and use a programmable ecu. just let the gearbox warm up a bit before you start harassing it.

Manual valve body sounds good, B&M doesnt make one for the jatco i'm fairly sure. Mate has a manualized trimatic without a B&M and it sucks using the t-bar man ay! Really wana be able to keep the car in D and select gears automatically. Would a programmable ecu, either link or autronic etc. be able to run the auto if it wasnt manualized?
You can run a Stage III without the computer. You will require a 12V switch to lockout Over Drive. Simple.
We have Shifter Kits to suit B&M to JATCO 3 and 4 speed.
The standard series II mechanical shifter is actually easier to drive with the Full Manual than a ratchet shifter. Going from Reverse to 1st requires 4 strokes of the shifter in a B&M unit. This is the only time a Reverse Pattern Valve Body is better than the Forward Pattern.
