Well, after owning a VL, VR, VK, i went searching for a nice neat calais turbo for the 2nd time (ended up with the VR the 1st time), but once again i didnt end up with what i set out to buy..
After scouring the trading post, i spotted something that caught my eye.. after a few phone calls, arguments with what was then my gf, and a trip up to the northern beaches of sydney, i handed over a wad of cash and took off in my new toy..
It took all of 4mins of cruising in Goulburn to be pulled up..
The car is a series 2 VL Calais, started life as a blue n/a 6 cylinder but since then it had undergone 2 rebuilds..
The car was fitted with an injected 304 and T700 pulled from a VR commodore (had a 5.7ltr walkinshaw motor in it first time around)
A genuine HDT Aero kit was fitted as well as a walkinshaw bonnet scoop, the car then coated in imperial blue, although with alot more purple fleck added.
The engine bay was fully detailed prior to the paint going on, and everything hidden.
The interior was treated to a set of genuine Scheel seats and the rest of the interior retrimmed to match, from new carpet, to new headlining, so it looked pretty when you looked up and out the factory elec sunroof.
the car was rolling on a set of 17inch HSV 10 spoke senators, covering the VT Brakes up front with slotted rotors, and the cross drilled walky brakes on the back, which sat either end of a walkinshaw diff.
After about 2 weeks of owning the car, during a local RTA/EPA/Police crackdown, the car was inspected.. they didnt like it one little bit i left the defect station with a list of fines/defects..
Exceed noise limit, was 102dB, needed to be under 90
Pod filter, No charcoal canister, no washer bottle, no brake check light (when ignition turned on), battery box not vented to outside car, not present vehicle modification report.
With a new resonator and some steel wool, we got it down to 90.5db for the test, charcoal canister was hidden under the guard in front of the right hand wheel, washer bottle hidden behind grille, a stock airbox was gaffer taped in for the epa inspection, as well as the other small ****.
about this time i started hearing a wierd noise, a scraping noise every time the foot was down, turned out i had broken an engine mount and the fan was rubbing on the shroud, so some new engine mounts were thrown in, as well as new fuel lines, new custom gearbox x member, and a heap of tidying up underneath.
Next on the list was some new rims.
i bought a pair of 18inch Chrome AMEs of MRHELE (thanks nic ) then went and bought another pair from tempe tyres, although i didnt like them on the car myself, you can make up your own mind.
When i first bought the car, there was no stereo in it wat so ever.. so i put in an alpine headunit, some 4inch front splits, some alpine 6.9s, alpine bass engines, phoenix gold amp, alpine V12 amp, and an alpine ZR 12inch sub..
The AME's stayed on the car a whole 3 weeks, they were replaced by a set of 18inch impuls from tempe as well..
note: above pic is a photochop, didnt have many decent pics with those wheels..
after a while i went and bought myself an LS1 powered VT berlina, then i decided one day i didnt need two v8 commodores so they both went on the market, of course the VL sold first, and found its new home in melbourne.. so i kept and modified the VT.
this is how the VL looked the day i sold it
there is alot that i have missed but im sick of typing.. comments welcome..
