very good question. id say most mount them in the passenger footwell under the dash. but ,thats where 90%of fires start lol so it may be hard to access when you really need it. your best friend is a battery isolation switch that you can get to fast

I've got mine thrown in the boot. Don't think it matters to much where its mounted as long as you atleast have one. The HSV's i've seen have been mounted in the boot.

Hey Exchaser, do you know how much room is between trans tunnel and trans when mounting the extinguisher in that postion? I wouldn't want to screw it in, and hit the trans LOL... I think mounting it in the boot is pointless, as by the time you see flames, pop the hood, get out of the car, run around to the boot, fumble with the lock, unstap the extinguisher and get to the fire, she's probably out of control... Just get an isolator switch and mount the extinguiser where it's easily accessible..

Even behind the front seats would be fine. How often do you use your glove box? Do you have seatcovers with a rear holder? Best idea ever with the battery Isolation switch, certainly beats trying to rip off hot wires with your hands.

i wouldn be puttin extinguisher in a back seat pocket hahah.. it'd be a nice hit in the head in the event of an accident or roll over.. u want it firmly secured where u can reach it.. and im surer there is ample room between the trans and the tunnel to fit a few decent self tappers or some little bolts with nyloc nuts.

I mounted mine in the back passengers footwell up against the back seat base. Its out of the way and I can reach it easily.

Mines mounted in the same place as Gormo's (see pic above) - except the other way round, which became a problem whenever i used full throttle on high boost as the passenger then had an extinguisher fly out at them. It now has a zip tie holding it in, in such a way that if i pull on it in an emergency it'll come off quickly.

No I dont think there are any plans to start fires, which is why people have them. Turbo's and modified tend to have extra wiring and parts, and get far hotter than normal cars so there's heaps more danger for fire to start - and as mentioned above some performance cars are starting to come out with them standard. The cars these are installed in are more your 10/11sec VL turbo jobs, and not your average run-around-town VL. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

They should be in every car as standard or compulsory. All you need is a perished fuel hose or something to leak and the heat from the engine will light it up easy. Then when you have a fire, what do you do, try and pi55 on it? I don't know if you have ever played with fuel and fire, but it is very difficult to put out, and water only causes fuel to run and the fire to spread. Its bad 5hit when its on fire Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Not to mention the fact they are only $30-$40 brand new fully filled. If thats not cheap insurance what is...

a lady at work has had two vl's that have just burnt to the ground - first one was in a workshop over the weekend the second had a horn that didnt work the car was just sitting out the front then the horn just started going so they are like WTF and go out to look and the bitch was on fire so not that a fire extinguisher would have help in those situations but that just proves they could go up at any time

ahhh i see.. now how many people are running 10sec cars... are people just seeing them as a form of rice when there are no other forms of spinning hubbies, neons and massive cannons left to fit? I just dont see what the deal is, if you can be bothered to install a fire extinghuisher u may as well maintain your car.. the way i see it is if you keep your car in good condition and make sure wires cant catch fire, you cant tell me that its impossible, it is very unliely for your car to catch on fire if it has been well maintained.. i dont see most performance cars catching on fire on a daily basis.. Or mayb its the fact that my car aint worth the fire extinguisher, or the fact im too lasy and see it as the most unlikely thing thats going to happen to me... I dunno...

I would never consider a fire extinquisher rice. Unless it wasn't filled, and was just for looks Mine isn't rice, its thrown in the boot. However i did think about putting it in the engine bay for a few sec, where the battery tray was. But it was a little bit big for there. Could have got a smaller one, then it probally not big enough to put a fire out. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
