I have one. The box is a bit ****ty but, think it just needs new clutch fluid and a good bleed, or a new master cylinder. After that if it's still not going as it should I guess the clutch will be up for replacing. It's rough on gear changes in the low gears, 1 to 2 to 3. I plan to clean and wash it this weekend finally, first time since buying in August, only because the rear window had a pretty big water leak and I was too hesitant to wet it. All looks good now, time to finally let the hose loose on it. I'll have to cover a couple of gaps in the door rubbers that surround the windows, these need replacing anyway so hopefully that'll be done soon too.

i got a 5speed factory and so has my mate....mine seems to have abit of a bulky shift too waughy....my mates doesnt however. i think that factory 5speeds are rare, but down here on the south coast, other than mine and my mates, i know another p plater has one and alot of old stockers have them too, but most of the modded ones are auto.......when i bought mine i paid top dollar, but nearly every other one i looked at was a fricking auto......

I think I'm a hero because I have a 5 speed, Only because I know of 2 or 3 others around here and every other of the 50 thousand or so vl's in this town are all auto pieces of poo poo. Theres still a heap of them getting around, maybe less legit ones though.

Avster from here also has a 5 speed, his is a turbo car. I checked my build plate and it says MF5 for transmission so my car is a factory 5 speed as well. I don't think I'm a hero, just wanted a manual after owning 4 autos previously, an '81 laser, VL, VS and VT super6. Loved the VT, just couldn't afford to keep it.

I have a 5 speed, and i wouldn't say they're rare either. There are a fair few around, the condition of them however, is another story. Took me ages to find a good one.

exactly very good point vlsl5spd, there are a few here down south but most of them are thrashed 2 ****, i have a factory 5spd sl and it took me 2 months of searching to find a decent 5spd vl, i dont think there rare as such but try and find one that hads been looked after, had the fluids changed/checked most ppl round my area with 5spd vl's seem to think thrashin the absolute **** outa of the poor MF5 wont do n e harm... so as vlsl5spd said its not the matter of numbers just the quality of it most of them are ***ed... jeff

I converted mine myself to 5 speed, now it looks as though i've just dropped a bearing ...... fun fun fun ..... Doesn't matter now as i've just lost my licence and am gunna sell mine to fund a genuine Calais Turbo or Cefiro ...... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

The super 6 was great. I had a set of pacemakers on it as well as an SV8 catback exhaust (2-1/4"), plus I fitted a pulley said to boost it to 10psi. This is pretty much what they did on a car in a SC mag a few months back now and through calculations reckoned it was putting out 215kw at the flywheel, pretty much the same as the VS HSV's. I drove it and compared it to my Dad's VU SS with full exhaust and BBK TB, plus some computer tweaking at the local Holden dealer (he knows the service maanger) and the 6 would have left the GENIII for dead off the mark. The ute would have caught the 6 around 70k's and easily left it behind from there. Fuel and insurance were the killers with it, I was spending around 90/week, which is a lot for me, and insurance was up as it was supercharged. My VL is either a freak or the odo is dodgy, I filled up the other night and according to the odo the last tank had given 567k's, that's mixed driving, plus giving it a good workout occassionally. I'd still like it to be a turbo.
