Hey guyz please help me My auto trans is being a bitch. Everytime I'm doing about 70-100 km/hr I get vibrations through the whole car. When I put my foot down and accelerate the vibrations go away, suggesting that it happens at a certain rev. However this only happens when the overdrive button is on Will I need to either replace the gearbox, overhaul it or can it be a stupid tail shaft problem?? If it is a tailshaft problem, why does it go away when overdrive is turned off??

Its not a biggy. Almost everyone has this prob. Its a lock up overdrive thing. DOes not mean you have to replace anything. You can either 1. press the PWR button, accelerate to what spped you want (175km/h) then hit the button and cruise at that speed. 2. accelerate through it. 3. put the foot further down and let it drop back to 3rd.

Your converter is stuffed . You can get a new one (not cheap) or disconnect the overdrive lockup. Much easier. Turbo's don't have one anyway. Theres a thread here somewhere about how to do it.

The following relates to a VL NA. To confirm it is the Lockup plate inside the Torque Converter, unplug the solenoid located on the bellhousing. If the vibrations disappear then the problem is inside the Torque Converter.

ok i have the engine out of the car at the moment so i cant really test it that way. would there be any other way? would an overhaul fix it? also would it be better to leave it on or take it off if i am supercharging it?

Reconditionong the converter will fix the problem but unless you modify the apply rate then it will burn out again. If you increase the power level of the engine then definately unplug the solenoid. VL Turbo's had this option deleted from the factory.

Is the solenoid all that I need to unplug and how do I do it?
