hey guys
this is the dilemma,
car blows grey/blueish smoke(only slightly) just driving round slowly
when on boost lot more grey/blue smoke but also black smoke
now black smoke is unburnt fuel.. but thats not the problem..... and ive just had a leak down test which showed:
cylinder
1 : 10%
2 : 12%
3 : 8%
4 : 14%
5 : 10%
6 : 12%
im running a catch can, which has barely any oil in it... but im losing oil at a reasonable rate....
so question is.. if valve stem seals... how much do they cost(just the actual seals) and with the head on, how do u compress the valve springs?
id rather do that than, rebuild turbo and find out still blows smoke...
or if anyone has ideas.... it would be much appreciated...

i agree with david, sounds like she's near retirement, how many k's has she done? and how does she go, if the car shakes at normal idle its probably a piston ring

if its valve stem seals it will let out a big puff of smoke when you first start it then it wont be noticalbe. theyre pretty time consuming to do. getting the spring out aint to bad gotta hold the valve up with air or if ya dont have that fitting stuffing rope down the plug hole works but is a real pricck to get in and out. probably easier to rip the head off. then if you go that far you may as well do a rebuild. if you short on cash just give the bore a hone and do pistions ring and bearings. there'll be stuff al wear on the bores

if its been rebuilt you would assume it aint bottom end. did you get the head done up at the same time. if u didnt with those sorta leak results your valves aint seating

05-12-04, 15:29 GMT+10#10 a leak down test should be able to pin point the exact area that is causing a problem.
who did the test?

05-12-04, 17:17 GMT+10#11 the oil problem was 3 valve stem seals had worn and popped off(slid up the valve), i have changed those now and no trouble anymore.....
Im in sydney for few months so the local mechanic did the test for me...
for afm settings, its 1st and 6th pin and should be set at 382 ohms.... is that correct?
