hey, im just wondering how much it normally takes to refill the factory vl auto on teh rb30. I just serviced it, filled it with 2.3 liters (estimate), i let it sit and had a look and the dipstick said its overfilled. I haven't driven the car yet, do i need 2 drive it b4 i check? i was told it should read half way when its cold and full when its warm
just drove the car for 20mins, it rev flares from 2nd to 3rd but nowhere else, this is what it did before, thats why i serviced it, after i drove it i couldnt get a propper reading with the dip stick, its just got smudges everywhere, wot u guyz reckon it is?
also what speeds is the auto supposed to shift at for each gear
r u sure? the car was on an slope when i did it cos i cant jack it up at the moment, i dont wanna wreck it thats y im asking if ur sure, its cos b4 i drove it the dipstick sed it was overfilled, i figured wen i drove it the oil bubbled up a lot and thats why i got smudges everywhere, wot u reckon?
if i put more in and it has too much in it is it okay to loosen the pan to let some out?

OK. you must check the fluid level when at operating temperature, preferably by driving is easy.
How do expect to check the fluid level accuratley when the car is on a slope? lol.
When oil is cold is will read overfilled. Once it's warm and running the level indicator will drop down.
If it is a little overfilled, you can drain is either by sucking it back up from the filler using the right tool, or bleeding it from the pan, although the gasket does not like being oil soaked and may not seal properly. hope this helps.
yeh does a bit, i thought it would read higher when warm, and i didnt check it wen on the slope, not that stupid.
i drove the car for 20mins, took it through all gears a good number of times, when i checked it the car was dead flat like b4 and i got smudges everywhere after trying 5 times. When i was driving it the revs flared between 2nd and 3rd unless i was extremely gentle with the throttle.
so for one last time, just 2 make sure, should i put more oil in or would it be another problem
If its over-full, I just disconnect a hose from the trans fluid cooler and let it pump it out into a bucket or something .
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
From dead empty (brand new box or fully rebuilt) the Auto holds the following figures.
7.0L with converter
3.4L without converter
Not to sure what you have done to it exactly so i don't know how much is in there already.
Sometimes you have to check the dipstick 3-4 times and wipe it to get an accurate reading with those boxes. But you will get it sooner or later. Did you adjust the bands while the pan was off?
Cheers.
Im also curious as to wether i should put more trans fluid in my box or not.Its a yarra valley jatco with 3200rpm stall shift kitted etc and it wont drop back to 2nd when i slow down sometimes..could this be a band problem? other then this it shifts hard and fine still...
no methz that means theres something wrong with your kickback slenoid, check the wires, and if its a mechanical one just tighten the cable if u want it to kickdown earlier
