Ive currently got a 3.45 LSD in my V8 VL and its due for a reco ( cones worn ) , the car is used for mainly track days and is powered by a 200 rwkw 5ltr . Have i any other options than the std cone type lsd? , a mechanical LSD would be perfect but i dont know where to source something like this . Im not interested in a locked diff either due to the understeer the produce.

I've heard of something called a KAAZ centre which I think is some sort of mechanical LSD. From memory they are about $1,500-2,000. Unfortunately don't know any more about them.

he said he wasnt interested in a locked diff mate, im pretty sure a detroit locker unlocks when you go around a corner then locks when you go straight?

Kazz would be the choice if you had about $1500 to spend like said above, however you can get a detroit style locker for the BW78 series diff for around $800.I'll be going this way fairly soon.

Thanks for that im looking into a few options , i pulled mine apart and it is only the spider gears that are causing the excessive back lash so will change them for now.
The std VL 5lt diff is obviously very strong but it doesnt like manual cars as much as the auto's.

01-12-04, 15:23 GMT+10#11 If a detroit locker is locked all the time, isn't it just an uneccesarily complicated and expensive spool?
The info from the Reider Racing web page, suggests it isn't locked all the time:
Quote:
Detroit Locker
Improved design performs like standard (open) differential in normal driving...until you need it.
Limits wheel spin on wet, muddy and icy terrain for maximum traction.
Improves handling and increases tread life by allowing differences in wheel speed when turning or operating on uneven surfaces.
Dependable, rugged automatic system.
Smooth operation - even in front drive steering axles.

03-12-04, 19:35 GMT+10#14 Ive been told that the Detroit style lockers for the BW78 series diff aren't too bad......when going into a corner you have to stay off the gas and sorta roll threw it and the diff will stay unlocked however get on the gas and it locks and acts just like a spool.
