hey guys i am thinking of getting this vn for $5000 is it worth it?
it hasbody kit18" alloy hsv rimsspoliercd playerim not sure what engine mods it has but there is a pic and if anyone can help me out please do. thanks guys
can anyone host these pics, theyre worth it. thanks
5g for a v8 fark ur pushin it for a decent one, 5g is decent for a vn, c'mon think about it, ppl are still askin 5 or more for a vl, so y does that price sound so unusual, id say its a good price as long as its a clean, looked after car wit reasonable km's.
VL's are popular and hence hold their value because they are easy to extract power from, and are generally reliable (apart from a few common faults).
The v6 in the vn was an utter hunk of crap, rough as guts, very rare to find one that still sounds healthy. Meanwhile VL's with 300,000k's are still going strong.
Just FYI:
A NA VL makes 114kw(3 Litres) (power per litre of 38kw).
A ecotec v6 (VS commodore onwards) makes 147kw (3.8 Litres) (power per litre of 38.7kw)
A vn commodore made 121kw (3.8 Litres) (power per litre of 31.8kw)
So it's taken holden basically ten years of development to catch upto what nissan was doing in the 80's, kinda pathetic.
On the other hand, one of my friends bought a VN commodore v6 manual for 8 grand with stocko rims, no bodykit, in plain white.
You can sell a car for anything as long as you can find someone to pay for it.
5 grand is pretty alright, if it comes with mags etc... just make sure the car doesn't sound like it going to **** itself on you.
its all about condition... if she is clean as then its as good buy. I'v now owned an n/a vl, a turbo vl and a v6 vn and im telling u the vn would rape the vl n/a hands down no probs, they may not be pretty but vn's are very quick for what they are (but yeah really rough and handling..arg lol). They also do amazing burnouts for a stock arse old 6.
I'd be saying no, recently a mate of mine had a VN manual for sale for a measely figure, I think it was 2k or less.. With a rebuilt gearbox, looked tidy and had rims and stereo, I do believe?
2k, sell the old rims and buy some new ones, 3.5k..
I'd say no unless its really clean, and sorry, even if the v6 beats n/a vl's.. I really don't like v configuration motors.. Never been a fan of Buick v6s
its dark ocean blue. im not sure on the k's but its not to much, im just wondering because its suck a low price for such quality maybe the engine would be crap? its a v6 though. its very clean and well looked after only concern is mods i would ahve to do to the engine, if anyone wants to host pics u can all check the car out
I was looking at a V8 VN calais for $6000. Had the formula bodykit(same as SS) and had a bit of work done. Even had leather seats and this was in a car yard. Just letting you know what you can buy for that kind of money.
The only thing wrong with a V6 basically is their idle (it is a bit rough).
You have to compare a good VN to a good VL to be fair,as my VL in twin cam form is quicker than a lot of VN - VS Commodores even when driving normally but the other cars are probably autos which have done a lot of kays, haven't been taken care of and are running on standard unleaded.
Our VP Commodore went a lot better after a rebuild (and with the addition of performance parts.
When we did the VN it only had external mods such as headers but we fitted a Supra 5 speed into it,this made it quicker than a manual V8 with unknown kms on it.
The bottom end torque of the V6 is greater than an RB30 in any form but the RB30DE has a better top end than the VN at present, the VP is on par with the multi valve motor up on top (with its camshaft and higher compression ratio) but has bags more bottom end torque, despite the twin cam motor being more ballsy than the RB30E down low.
The only RB30 I have ever heard of having the same low down torque as a V6 if not more was a single cam RB30 in a VL which ran a Delco ECU as used in a V6 Commodore.
It was programmed using a Kalmaker SP3 program which enabled it to use a MAF sensor of the ECOTEC,this was largely responsible for an increase in throttle reponse which led to the auto car breaking traction if you weren't careful with the throttle.
THe only other RB30 I could think of is a VL someone I work with owns,it runs a huge intercooler (it's obviously a turbo) and he runs it on 10 PSI of boost.
If he say comes out of say a servo then gives it a bootful the car goes up the road "diagonally",it kind of fishtails in the first couple of gears.
This is a worn RB30 with a worn & slipping clutch as he dragged of a Toyota Supra when running 13 PSI of boost,he beat it but the clutch slipped and his intake caught on fire from all the blowby spirting into the intake.
He now leaves it on 10 pound, despite that it performs better than a BA XR6 turbo he went in,he says his VL (with a worn engine, etc) has a far better top end than the Falcon, they have bags of low down torque but not a lot to offer in regards to top end performance I am told.

.
oh and rb30s are angels?? last two ive had were nothing but trouble, always have problems with sensors and other junk.
a buick v6 will do 300,000s like it was nothing, they were built to do a LOT more than that. V6 has a lot more torque than an rb30 and torque is what u want over 'power'
V6s in the states are quicker than rb30s are here, the only thing about an rb30 is that it was a factory turbo car so easy for the amateur to build up on.. whereas there's v6 turbo kits coming out now and even V6 vengeance from SC is already running 11s!
BUT ON TOPIC, 5g is rich and i hate body kitted VNS with stock v6s in then anyway

If I spent 13k on my car I'm sure I could get it doing good times aswell.
that 13g is from start to finish... and honestly they wasted a lot of cash on the thing at first trying to get it to perform NA, like custom manifold e.t.c
Its really a nice budget combo when u sum it up.
Engine rebuild was has stock rods and crank e.t.c minor ported heads, acl pistons and a custom cam.. motor would of cost about 2-3g MAX i reckon and it was a backyard assembly
Turbo is some xtr turbo dunno but id say about $1200 for it, has an internal gate.. pipes were about $1200 too not exactly sure. Auto would of cost maybe 2g max. Cooler was $500, piping another $500 complete.. few other bits and pieces but its not a mega dollar combo and has plenty left in it. its making 240rwkw or so and does it easy on like 10psi (i hope blownvn can clear all this stuff up) havent seen too many rb30s making that power at such low boost
