Don't know wmuch about the motors, but I don't think much was changed elsewhere for the VS. Being a 95 model it will be one of the last (VS started mid 95 I think) so it should be a good one as far as having the litle things sorted out from the first release.
Personally, I'm holding onto the VL as long as I can and seeing what the VE is like, if it's all it's cracked up to be, how the HFV6 is improved going by the current whinges from people. If it doesn't appeal I'm considering an 02-03 model Subaru Outback. That's about a 5 year plan.

yah man 6500 is what you would typically pay for a '95 berlina. mileage is good to what you would expect.

and what everyone else is selling their rig for

for its mileage, and price it should prove to be a good car.
engine wise from what i have read its supposed to be pretty good.. but then it comes down to how well the car was maintained it, and if the guy drove the car like a fruit or not.

The motors the buick 3.8L v6, the difference from vr to vs is the vs got an ecotech version of the motor. Body wise and that they are very similar, only a few minor differences. I reckon the price is a good deal.
