hey fellas, I've got an exec with no power steering - recently I got offered a full power steering set up for 130 bucks... I've done a search about differences in the series 1 and 2 type power steering set ups: Quote: Originally Posted by RB30DEVL As long as you get the parts for if all off the one car it is simple as the series 1 and 2 VL power steering setups are slightly different, the pipe which goes up to the high pressure outlet on the pump from the rack is shaped differently, the series 1 I think from memory comes out from the side whereas the series 2 pipe comes out from the back. This obviously means both series have different pumps, the racks however on the very last of the series 2's (i.e. VN type rack) can still be fitted into an early VL,if a wrecker is selling bits and pieces, don't bother getting it there,go somewhere else where you know you are getting all the parts off the same series. I think the series 1's used a VK pump which I am told are crap and I know for sure the series 2 uses a VN type pump as the VN repair kit has the same part number as a series 2 VL kit. Is this all true? should I avoid it if its only a series 1 type? Does anyone have any other ways of seeing if its series 1 or 2? any one got photos of the different types? Am I missing anything on this list I need to do a full swap: - power rack - power-steering pump - hoses (one high pressure hose, one low pressure hose) - steering column knuckle uni joint - fluid reservoir - belts and bolts Thanks fellas, Cheers, Dale

the pumps and high pressure line are different. the series 1 pump is more expensive to rebuild. the series 2 pump is the same as the VN/VP/VR/VS one with a different pulley. as long as it all works and in good condition it makes no difference really.

leaks of course, play in the pump shaft.. it should barely have any. turn it gently by hand and it should be reasonably smooth.
