hey i need to buy a wastegate for my T04B so i can start collecting parts for my turbo upgrade on my VLCT now i was looking on the turbosmart site and was looking at both the Ultra-Gate and Pro-Gate i heard the Pro-Gate is $700 but after i read abit about it they are talkin about it on drag cars and Big Horse power engines and i thought maybe its not what im after what is the Ultra Gate like i know its only 35mm but is that to small for my turbo and what price is that. later on i might get my T04B hi flowed and fit a bigger Comp wheel and inlet housing bigger to like 5 inches would this wastegate still be fine. im only ever going to be runing about 12psi-14psi on my stock internals.

you can run more than that on stock internals! 12psi omg i run 20!

but do u use internal gate, cause if u do thats ok but a T04b doesn't come with an internal gate so he'll have to get an external gate of some sort

if ur using a large turbo and running low boost u will benefit from a larger gate.. however using a larger turbine and high boost.. u can get away with a smaller gate that doest have to pass as much air as most of it will be used to spool up and make the big boost... tricky subject. speak to a specialist

Ok yer im not really sure myself i think the 35mm Ultra-Gate will be fine as im only going to run about 14 psi i think it will be fine. if later on i change things ill probley just change my wastegate if i have a problem. 20 psi man wouldnt that be alot on standard internals???

Im about to fit my TO4b turbo with a 42mm turbonetics deltagate. I'll be cranking the boost tho. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

how much is that turbonetics wastegate?? if the Turbosmart Detla-gate is enough then ill get 1 of dem.

i bought it second hand for $375 with only about 2000kms use, worth quite a bit more. if your going to be upgrading the turbo later, or even high flowing it and running higher boost, id suggest 42-45mm. My two cents

ok no worries but even if i upgrade im not going to run more then 14 psi on my stock Rb30ET internals and the wastegate has a 14 psi spring so wouldnt the 35mm be enough for me. would i get lag or somthing if i was running a 65 mm or 45 mm on 14psi?

You wont get extra lag with a bigger gate. But some gates have very stiff springs that may mean you can run a minimum of 15psi. I wouldn't be getting a 65mm mate way too overkill. go 45mm or even 38mm. The gate is not really going to be the deciding factor on how much power you make. The 12-14 psi is. Just go with whatever you find that is a good price. I think Rajab have a special on Pro gates at the moment. Have a look around you might be able to find a decent second hand and save yourself some money.

Ok i just want to get all bolts, flanges and bits that come with the wastegate you know what i mean. i really dont like buying second hand parts. i think i might go with the Turbosmart Ultragate. ill look into the price.

For a given engine, the lower the boost you are running, the bigger your wastegate will need to be. More exhaust gas will need to be bypassed around the turbine to hold it at 15psi compared to say 20psi where most of the gas will need to go through the turbo.

the way i see it what u explained is wrong, a small waste gate would vent gas at a lower psi, the waste gate dtermines how much pressure a basically closed system can hold. the larger the waste gate the more pressure a system can hold but i do agree with the fact that at low boost more gas will be by passed than at high boost

Monsta explained it how i think i 'tried' to explain it Because u're using a highflow t3, retaining the standard .63 housing (which is pretty small) u would benefit from a larger gate opening if u were running pretty high boost say around 20+ psi because at that boost, ur gunna be producing alot of exhaust gasses that are gunna want to over spin ur turbo unless u have a large enough opening to get rid of them when u reach ur desired boost pressure. By having a gate that can flow the unwanted exhaust gas. ur also keeping turbine back pressure to a minimum.. which is all +++ !!! having say a big turbo with a massive exhaust housing on ur car, running the same boost as above, u'll probably get away with a smaller gate opening, simply because ur gunna need more gasses to fill the housing and make the boost. The limit to which u have out puffed ur turbo becomes less of an issue and the excess gasses are vented out of the smaller gate opening without an issue because there is no restrictive buildup in the system (due to the larger exhaust housing)... I hope im making sence.. the way im seeing it in my head it makes sence to me.. but i dunno if im typing it down right haha !! correct me if im wrong. Ollie

i agree with u exchaser the T04B i got has a pretty big exhaust housing compared to my T3 i have on the calais now i looked at the turbosmart wastegates and there not under $600 the prices are higer then that i 4get the price Turbosmart gave me in the email. i wouldnt mind spending up to like $500 but not right at the moemnt got other comitments 1st b4 i go and buy the thing and i dont wanna buy it then find out its nothing to what i need. thanks for the info i think somthing like a 45mm or 55mm will do perfectly.

exchaser is precisely correct. a bigger gate does not mean you will run more boost, in fact if anything the opposite. since the gate is a bypass valve the bigger it is the more gas can bypass the turbine resulting in LOWER boost levels. take truck for example.they DONT use gates at all, just carefully sized exhaust housings to ensure they dont overboost
