Reading my dodgy roadworthy inspection report from last month (long story, see members section if you're really interested), one of the things listed is "worn outer tierod end". I'm no suspension guru, but I got under the car and I can't see how a tierod end wears out. I'm betting that it's not actually worn, so can someone explain to me what I'm looking for to see whether the tierod end is worn or not?

look for movement in ball joint, im guessing you have the originals still in there, just get a couple from holden. your best replacing both ends while your at it.

jack the wheels up and wrigle the wheels side to side with a hand a 9oclock and the other at 3oclock. the wheel shouldnt have any play. a ****ed rackend will do pretty much the same so stick ya head under and find out which one it is. if you replace them u will need a wheel alignment. it dont matter how good u mark them u cant get them back in the right spot.

Do as Benny01 said to test them,
But don't forget that if the wheel bearings are loose you will get movement too.
So make sure it isn't the rackend worn or loose wheel bearings and if you still have movement it will no doubt be the tie rod ends worn.
