Alarms and insurence?

hi i have just got my p's and brought a vl calais turbo and i have heard that if you have an alarm in your car some insurence companies will acutally lower your insurence is that true?

From what I have heard, is that insurance companies will suggest a certain manufacture to use, and if you do they will lower it. But this may not extend to all insurance companies. p.s - nice car
