ok guys, yet another problem, im sure all this fixing will pay off sooner or later...
ok now when im driving i can hear a slight grinding when i put my clutch in or slow down or the revs are decently high in 1/2 gear, this sound seems to get worse if i give my car a bit of a flogging and my gearbox warms up a bit more, i am thinking the gearbox oil? might need some more? or maybe jst do a full change? hopefully it is the gearbox oil and can some1 give me some sugestion on what oil to put in there! cheers!

You must have ran over a dog, it stuck between yout muffler bearing and you transfer case, you must get it out!

change your oil and see, it wont hurt your bank balance and if it is jsut low on oil or needed a new flush of it then its all good. just dont flog it as much until its bugs are worked out. you never know its could worsen the situation.

it needed alot of oil, fixed a couple of problems but its still grinding.. might need a new box i thinks..

you can buy nulon additive which quiets them down a fair bit, apart from that, syncros gone, poorly adjusted or sticking clutch, or too many skids, or not enough pillows on the seat to provide ample clutch pressing

02-11-04, 11:22 GMT+10#11 when we replced the clutch in my wagon the mechanic put half a litre or so automatic transmission fluid into my five speed and it made it a lot quieter and smoother but just saying dont take my word for it.

02-11-04, 13:32 GMT+10#13 if he knew it was going to stuff up why didnt he fix it when he had the box out? How well do u know this guy? He may be pumping more money out of you than necessary. Only saying that cos mechanics have a name for targeting people to make more money off as they are not the best paying trade out there. I believe they should be paid more but people want their cars fixed yesterday for almost nothing....but thats a little off track i guess.

02-11-04, 15:49 GMT+10#17 so he has already done the clutch? had the box out and put it back in? is that correct?
if he didnt have the box out he must have taken the engine out?
