Is it possible to reserve custom plates in Melbourne, and if so, how much does it cost and how long can you reserve for?

Yeah mate, I'm pretty sure you can. You just purchase the plates, and they put them on 'hold' for you until you want to either sell them, or put them on your car. They will 'hold' them for you for like 10 years or something too. Costs the normal price of a personalised number plate (i.e. $310).
