Mainly high revs only, boost above 5psi.. when the cars cold (seems to dissapear when its warm) my car makes a very odd noise which can only be explained as sounding like a high pitched flutter "chichichichichi" coming from the engine, which gets more rapid and louder with higher boost..
i have my pod filter, the AFM, black 90 degree plastic hose, and a metal intake part that the plastic hose grabs onto, the metal part is fairly loose, could this be the problem?
far as i've been told i may have a boost leak.. if this is right i should expect a little more power upon getting this pipe tightened up right?
the pipe being loose won't give u a boost leak, i would say its more lifters ticking when the engine is cold up in the rev range as it dissapears when it gets warm!!
Loose drive belt, especially an alternator belt will make this noise. Spray belt grip on it, or replace it if it's old. To see if it is the problem, spray soapy water on it and see if the noise changes.
Yes a drive belt would make noise in neutral, maybe a little bit different but yeah you would still hear it. A boost leak would be there regardless of engine temp, so I doubt that is the problem. The doctor is right though, don't boost a cold engine.
If it's the manifold to turbo gasket then you might be able to replace it without touching the exhaust studs. I don't know how, but ppl on here say that the turbo can come off without removing the manifold from the head. I couldn't do it, but anyway....
the only thing that has us stumped, is the car doesn't make any odd noises in neutral at full load, just a slight leak noise, and i can be full boosting the car upto 4000rpm, no noise, its almost like it has to be reving a good 5000rpm at full boost to do it.. except it does it alot more when cold i guess....
take your inlet pipe of the turbo
take your exhaust of the housing
take of the oil and water lines
undo the four bolts
drop the tubo out from under the car
thats how you take a turbo of yet leave the manifold itself on the motor
ive done it about 7 times now
yeah you have to heat up a ring spanner and bend the end of it so you have more clearance to move the spanner around to undo the nuts. or get 3 foot of extensions on a ratchet and go from underneath the car.
