Hey all, A friend of mine has just mentioned that his Dad (my mates early 50's so his Dad would have to be around 70's at least) is getting rid of his old Skyline. He's not sure what the year is (though he thinks it's about 18 yo), but he's pretty adament it's a 2.6lt twin overhead cam. It's under 100,000k, in great condition (he's owned it since new and it's been garaged half it's life) and the price is REALLY good... So, basically, I'm asking: - Would then engine be a RB26? If so - with the help of a mechanic - this can be put in my VL yeah? - Are there any well known probs with old skylines like this? (if I decided to keep it together) - How much would a car like this be worth? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated Cheers. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

no its not RB26. it is well before the age that Race Bred was used in nissan. it would most likely be an R30. or DR30 if it is import. these skylines also carried turbo, but not being an expert on them things i can't be sure which models. depending on its condition which we should say is excellent, i wouldn't expect more then $2000 non turbs.

Grrr - just went to have a look at it and it's not even a Skyline :-| It's a 1989 Pintara. Twin exhaust though which kinda suggests it's got something under the hood? dunno. Then again, regardless - it's in great condition (no rust, no dents that I can see) 90 thousand on the clock and he only wants around 1k for it. Might be a nice daily? dunno. Gonna try and find some specs on it now. Thanks for the feedback guys Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

what. twin small pipes? you mean what skyline and pintara come standard with. these things are bullet proof. and if there is low k's and no rust it will be even better. my car has 408,000 genuine k's and it goes hard as still with no probs.

pinny had two engines. CA20e and CA18e. it would most likely be CA20e. these things put out bout 79kw or something.

Yeah, just found some specs - 83kw. 93,000 k's... original owner (old guy), paint's still great (garaged) only one spot of rust I could find which was on the corner of the boot lid (very small dot too - and just surface). I think I'll get it - just as an A to Z driver. Considering I'm driving an 85 VK and spending ~$40 on fuel, I'd say I will pay for the car within a year on petrol savings alone :P haha.

Nah, unleaded (according to redbook.com.au - http://www.redbook.com.au/vehiclese...sp?key=NISS89AT (http://www.redbook.com.au/vehiclesearch/Detail.asp?key=NISS89AT) ) I like the 4 wheel disc brakes... looks like an good A to Z.

yep story... magnas were released with the G series 4 cyl. it was in the form of carb 2.6L leaded when it was in early magnas and sigmas. it then became unleaded when the fuel changed in 86. it then became EFI late 80's. my point is who cares what fuel it uses cause year will dictate. u might like to know that RB30 originated from a carby diesel engine. if not diesel, leaded fuel (not clear on fuel) but they were from 4WD. CA20 also had carby.

Well, from what I can gather the Nissan Gazelle was leaded until 1986 (or round abouts -- as DoctoR31 said). I know the 89 Pintara was EFI and I believe it's both a CA20 engine and unleaded (going off http://martybugs.net/Pintara/ and the Redbook link above). Although, it says CA20E on the pintara page - maybe there the CA20 was leaded and the CA20E (E I'm thinking is EFI?) was unleaded? Either way, I'm pretty sure I'll get it. It's in great nick and will make up the cost in petrol savings within a year ;-)

CA20e same as RB30e. there is also CA20de and det. not related to fuel types. every car manufactured later than 1986 and most within 1986 must be unleaded. the pinny is unleaded, fuel injected. all wheel disc brakes.

And it was after he crashed or bought his R31 so he had the tail-lights already.. And this is his stereo install Was his stereo install sorry, One of those amps are mine now They go quite well for what they are, still gutless compared to a good condition vl manual. But we raced a fairly poor condition skyline one night and nearly beat him- when he was feeling all happy about himself we told him it wasn't a skyline and that it was a pintara.. then laughed at how pox his car was.. Yeah he started, fairly sure he got the front bar on and it looked pretty stupid, looked huge and didn't quite sit right, so he just ripped it back off and went back to normal. He was planning on doing the bonnet and the projector lights and bla bla bla, never happened, can't remember why.

Looks very nice - though I'm not too worried about the looks, just a little buzz box to get me around (and not cost me a ****load in fuel :P) Boot looks awesome! I was reading somewhere they come stock with 4 speakers? I hope so, would make putting a nice sound system in it easy (and central locking ) Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
