I have put my head together and i have found that some of the lifters don't compress when i manually turn the camshaft. Does this mean they are seized and need cleaning or replacing? or will they be fine once i put it onto the engine and get it running? What should i do?

i didnt think they should compress that easily! someone i knew who rebuilt them said that if you can compress them in a vice on re-assembly, they are stuffed.

If you have just put then in and you haven't started the motor yet, then thats what will happen. You need to start the engine and let it run for a bit because the lifters need to pump up with oil. If there is no oil in them then they will be easy to push down. The lifters that don't compress may have enough oil in them so that they can't compress. When you get new ones they usually have some oil in them. The only way you are going to find out for sure is put the motor back together and run it. If all works well and you have no noisy lifters, then they are all good. Good luck Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
