V8 VR calais Need some help please, this is the story. My car is getting real hot and has already overheated once. I have so far changed thermostat and coolant, checked head. The temp gauge needle stays at halfway for awhile then rises to 3 quarters moves up and down alot and then eventually moves over 3 quaters which is when i get scared and turn the engine off. Takes about 45mins. Car is not loosing coolant. Is it possible the radiator can be rooted and could be the cause or maybe water pump? Any advice? Also the thermo fan seems to be working fine.

if the temp rises while on the highway then it suggests the radiator. check the water pump bearings becuase they **** themselves pretty often, but that woulnt overheat it. do u have access to a pressure tester. pump it up the give it a good rev. if the pump is working fine the pressure should drop a bit then go back up. if it dont change at all the it suggests impellor

what thermos u talking about. if u have fitted a davies craig fan instead ot the original fan theres your problem rite there. a stock vn v8 fan pumps 1600cfm while a 16 inch thermo only pumps 1000cfm. check also that the w/pump has not play in the snout as they snap straight off aswell. let me know as i run a radiator shop and will be able to help u out

cheers guys. Temp seems to drop a little bit when idleing but when driving it moves up again. It has the standard thermo and clutch fans. Il investigate the waterpump situation and get radiator checked out. Anything else i could do to find the problem??

Found out it was the radiator.. youll find after a while it gets blocked full of crap on the inside.. and you need to get a servicer to pull it apart and clean the crap out and put it back together .. thats if its still in good nick.. after they did that to mine.. it never went past the middle.. even on hot days! goodluck with it Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yep, change the pump, costs around $80, and there are 2 lengths of snouts too. Also as suggested get the radiator flushed and checked by an expert and put either 2 shrouded thermos on or the stock clutch fan instead of the one thermo which just doesn't cut it. I have a clutch fan and my temp struggles to get beyond 1/4, even in Summer giving the thing a thrashing, I put a 16 inch thermo on and removed the clutch fan and the temp went thru the roof, I changed back to the clutch fan.
