I have an autronic running my rb30 at the moment, and i'd like to get rid of half of the distributor and install some coil packs. The idea is to use the three ignition outputs on the autronic to run three coils, in a wasted spark setup. Which coils are best suited to be run by the 008 ignition module? (only half the dizzy is going because the CAS will still be used - just not the rotor button or cap.)

Im unsure of the detail without askin my brother but it sounds like a plan! Get a plate made to cover the end of the dizzy and seal it with a o-ring to stop dust getting in the CAS!

thanks jet - thats my plan. A sexy alloy plate will look good.... I just need to know if VN coils will be ok (with 20psi boost), or if i need to buy something more special....

It's been done before using vn coils or ea coils, give ray hall a buzz in Cairns more than helpfull. But i have to ask? Why? There is nothing wrong with the dist cap setup. Cheers.

At this stage i'm going to use an EF coil ($100), controlled by two 008 modules, and one 137 module. (OT - the 137 module might have to be replaced by another 008, because 137 modules are very badly effected by electrical interference, so it's only going to work if my wiring is good.) Anyone wanna sell me a working 008 ign module? (or two ). Here's a motec diagram of the setup. http://www.motec.com.au/drawings/c01.pdf Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Go Autronic CDI r500 lol. Will be perfect to drive coils packs or even six indidual coils, and will never run out of steam under high boost.

whats that worth? A little more than the $130 i've spent today to buy everything i need for this direct fire setup!? lol... i picked up a 008 module for $30 and an EF coil pack for $100.

lol Try around $1k. But it's a must for big hp.

Ray Hall tells me the bosch modules and coils will be on their limit at 20psi - he told me to get the CDI or MSD6 + an XF coil. It's half wired up already so i may as well finish it and see how it goes.

just to finish this thread... i ran all 6 cylinders on one coil from the EF coil pack, it worked beautifully, had better spark than the old blue motor coil i had used previously. This isn't to say there isn't more to gain from a CDI tho...
