I was told by a mechanic that if i knocked the guts out of my resonator that my exhaust would sound heaps better. He said that it was the chamber closest to the engine (the one with the flange fitting). I took it off and knocked it out but it was full of ceramic/porcelain. I didnt think anything of it at the time but later realised that it was probably my catalytic converter!
So.. does anyone know for sure if it was?? And also, does gutting the resonator make the exhaust sound any better, because with the "cat" missing it sounds tinny and hollow. Little help...... Cheers.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
Hmm, sounds like you knocked the cat out to me, which would more then likely be illegal down there, if you get a dummy pipe put through it, so its going through pipe, not rattling through a busted up piece of hollowness, it may sound/ run a bit better, some people swear by it.
They aren't cheap either if you want to replace it, I'm sorry to say.
Yep, you just fu.cked your cat!
If you get caught with a gutted cat, prepare to take out a personal loan.
A resonator dosn't have any guts. It is usually a straight through slotted pipe/s with some form of packing around it. Without a resonator, the exhaust note will have more "bark" (i.e. sound sh.it). I'd be finding another mechanic.
