Can someone just double check I got this right - the heavy spring with the ball bearing which goes in between the upper and lower halves, does the ball bearing go upwards pressed against the plate or do you have it recessed into the hole with the spring on top?
The little bugger popped out when I was taking it apart so not sure which way up!

talking about the orifice check valve? 2nd servo release? the ball bearing sits on top of the spring, pressed against the plate. it should mate up with a small hole in the separator plate.
did you also drop the check valve for front clutch apply? i did, and didn't know which way it went back in either! lucky i thought it through and figured it out okay.

Thanks for that! What I wanted to hear, because I put it all back together like that. The other two were okay, could see where they went!

the sons of bitches went everywhere, almost lost the front clutch apply valve like 4 times, it was a nightmare. managed to get them all back together in the right way though, thank god.

LOL yes thats exactly how it happened, lost the bitch somewhere in the pool of trans oil sitting in there.
Just pray that it works, I have nightmares that it's going to die in the ass.

haha you're doing a clean up or a shift kit or what?
when i put my kit in i didn't put enough fluid in at first, and the car wouldn't move, just sat there revving and not going anywhere. i crapped my pants, thought i'd have to take the valve body back out and fix it, then just thought of putting more oil in. another litre and it started to grip, another 500ml after that and it was fine. downshifts are sooooo much crisper, no rev flare at all. made a good difference.
thanks paul keas!

Yeah just put in one of those KEAS kits.
Should be quite a change, from an old rooted gearbox with no second gear, to a recently rebuilt one with a shift kit.
