hey guys i need some help
my vlt is is blowing smoke out of the exhaust after i back off the throttle. if i give it a stab and back off, there will be a small cloud of black smoke trailing me. does this means my rings are shagged?? i did a compression test not too long ago and it showed good results.
is there anything else it could be? cause my economy is sh!thouse and i'm also thinking that it may be something else.
thanx in advance
btw. i did a search but nothing too relevant came up. if someone could point me in the right direction would be good

black smoke means excess fuel is being burnt.i bet you also have black sh1t on your bumper

Bad fuel economy and black smoke means that its running too rich. Check your afm setting by checking the resistance using a multimeter would be a good start.

a large cloud of white smoke will appear upon a sharp backoff of the throttle , this is a very good indication that a ringland will be broken.
this is not always eveident through a comp test as the peice of metal that is broken , is still held pretty firmly between the 2 rings , the better way to test is via a leak down , $100 a mechanic will do it for ya. and can also pin point exactly whjere the problem is , be it stem seals , valve or piston.
but as said above ur problem being black smoke indicates richness , are u still using stock management etc , what have u done to ur car??

motor and turbo are stock except for cooler and bov. i got my missus to go up and down the street a few times to see what happens exactly. basically when the throttle is snapped shut, a cloud of black smoke emerges 1-2 seconds later.
i had the car dyno tuned about 10 months ago, how often should i get it done?
